Would you take a step backwards in your career?

I'm using a throw away account to try to limit my exposure. I am faced with a decision to either stay with my current company or to take another job with another company. Below are some details of the positions: Current: In leadership position with a good salary. There is still plenty of room to grow in this role. I enjoy the work and my colleagues. The problem is I'm located away from hometown with no family or friends nearby. I don't enjoy the area. The summers are too hot to enjoy with not much outdoor activities available. New: Similar field of work, I will be an individual contributor. The salary is $25,000 less than my current position. I estimate I'll still be able to make ends meet with the lower salary. I'll be located much closer to hometown with direct flight options. Several outdoor entertainment options available (skiing, lakes,…

I'm struggling since I've fought for career growth my whole life. It almost feels wrong to take a step backwards in both position and salary. However, I expect my quality of life to go up at the new location.

What would you do in this situation? Any thoughts or advice?
