Apparently I have the second lowest hours of any employee company-wide so far this year.
And here I'm thinking, “Well. I had a baby and took off two whole weeks, unpaid. I've had to take time off unpaid to help my wife with all kinds of things post-partum. We had tons of unpaid bad weather days. I got injured and took some unpaid time to visit a doctor. I got covid and took the policy-required unpaid 7 days off. I got sick again and took more unpaid time off, and still came in for a meeting.”
Point is, seeing as how my mortgage is currently about 50% of my income (at least until my wife starts making money again), I am well aware that I need the hours, and every time I can't work for any reason, I am well aware that I am not getting paid for things that are beyond my control.
I mentioned a couple of these things I missed work for out loud, and he said they were accounted for. But at the end of the day, why does it matter? Is this supposed to be motivational critique, that I should be working more? I'm not lacking hours because I'm a lazy fuck, I'm lacking hours because life happens, and my wallet is fucking hurting for it! God forbid we should have any policies or programs that allow us to take time off, because when we're not working, we're not contributing to society.
Now, I'm not bad-mouthing my boss or my company. I respect him, he treats me well, and the company actually does a pretty good job keeping its employees happy. But they are an average actor in a totally skewed economic environment, one where stepping away from work for any reason is a bad thing and not worth any compensation whatsoever.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just feeling fucking trapped these days.
