I understand some of the text screenshots of back and forth between washed-out bosses and employees are fake but they nonetheless underscore a need for us to deal more harshly with bad management.
Inspired by the stories I read, I quit on the spot today when my new boss deeply disrespected my schedule. This is a professional-level role where I have been dutiful, reliable, self-contained in my responsibilities, delivered results quietly, and never asked for more. In other words, the type of employee this org should want to have given the attrition rate of my particular role. I was simply happy doing the job and I was passionate about it. I felt fortunate to have a job that I could feel that way about.
But I also recognize how important it is for us right now to collectively fight back against bad management. So today when my schedule was abruptly and without warning changed, I asked for a reversal of the decision. When I was told it was “impossible” to change the schedule that had just been changed at random and with ease, I explained how my manager's behavior was disrespectful and quit effective immediately. Groveling ensued and yes, I relented, agreeing to finish a project that I was about to finish this weekend anyway. But after that, to never speak to me again.
