I'm a night time journalism intern, and because of that my posts rarely see the light of day on social media, so I get few views :')
However, in my work, they give a lot of importance to this, even having official pageview rankings in the newsroom. But it's unfair competition, not just for me as an intern, but for other journalists who make content that takes longer to make, complex stories, with multiple sources, not done in an hour.
In this case people who work in the morning/afternoon, get releases from the authorities, or “viral” content have much more advantage, I'm not saying that these people are guilty or anything, it's their job.
But the pressure of placements, a boss who always remembers your position in the rank, demanding attitude from you to go up more, but even if I go up, I'll never be in a good place.
I believe this system was created in an attempt to support journalists (it has a prize for 1st place), and I think it could be cool, but it's just disappointing. I personally see this as a form of toxic support, the competition is not bad, but with bad planning, it doesn't work out and ends up benefiting only a few people.
