You should know whether or not you can record your conversations at work

TLDR: Familiarize yourself with your state's consent laws about recording conversations. Most states in the US allow what is called “single-party consent” which means you do not need to notify another person that you are recording your conversation with them. I see a lot of posts and comments in this sub about interactions with recruiters, managers, HR, coworkers, etc that make it very clear that more people should be recording their phone conversations and in-person meetings. The power and advantage you can wield by keeping a documented history of these interactions can be incredible. Do yourself a favor and start recording every phone call and in-person meeting with your boss, HR, etc. Do it every time. Performance reviews, disciplinary meetings, promotions, salary negotiations, workplace issues. Catalog all of it with the date, what was discussed, and with whom. Doing this can save your ass several times over.
