50 people in the zoom call.
Our Deputy Director of Finance advertised for a Senior Accountant.
But:
1) The starting salary was an additional £600 per year.
2) It was a 6 month secondment.
3) I've been offered a new job in a different company, with a £10k pay rise.
I was told how great I was at interview. And four people internally went for it. As grateful as I would have been with an after tax and benefits wage of £8 per week, which perhaps I could have brought myself an extra McDonalds meal, I decided the extra hassle wasn't worth it.
The boss addressed all 50 people in the call, where I am somewhere in the middle and suddenly announced that he would like me to say a few words.
I was a bit 'wtf' so I said I didn't have anything to say thank you very much.
He then asked me what I was up to.
So, I was about to tell him I was going to do for a new job actually, when my Senior Manager jumped in and told him he needed to tell him his own news.
I mean, yeah, it's lucky Andrew stopped me from saying it I suppose, but I was convinced he was trying to get it out of me.
In hindsight, I feel he was making some kind of point of why I didn't go for the job.
