Management gaslighting

“It's tough out there right now.” – In a field where recruiters are DMing me around 5-10 times a day on LinkedIn. “Those salaries are in a bubble – we'll never see those. Those are for the top 1% and the rest of the salaries are like yours because of outsourcing. Those big salaries won't last.” – In a field where the average minimum salary is almost twice what I make. “Big salaries mean dealing with super corporate overlords and having no freedom.” – In a field where there are TONS of organizations in need, none of them all the same, and many of them actually structured to scale their success and provide those sorts of salaries to their employees while not dominating their entire lives. ———— These are some quotes from my ex-employer, the CEO of the company, who continually deals with high turnover and has decided that gaslighting…

My Fiance Needs A Pep Talk Before She Meets With Her Manager

My fiance told her manager a month ago that she wanted to move internally to a different team. Her manager clearly did not support her desire to move but fortunately didn't do anything to prevent her from talking to the other team. She took it upon herself to get in touch with the other internal team and has been interviewing with them over the past month. Keep in mind her current manager has no idea that she's been interviewing internally. So she recently found out that she got the internal role but now she has to let her manager know. Her main concern is that her manager will make her feel guilty for leaving the team or make her transition to the other team really difficult. I plan to share this post with her before she talks to her manager so any positive thoughts are greatly appreciated. At this point,…

I just want Worth in my Work.

I am finding it increasingly difficult to have motivation for work. I feel as though everything I was told growing up is just a lie or untrue. I’ll never forget being told on a consistent basis in high school “people with a college degree make on average a million dollars more in their lifetimes than someone without one.” So from the age of 18-24, I worked on getting a degree. Even though I was lucky enough to have parents who could afford to pay for my college and leave me debt free, I feel that I did nothing but waste my time and their money. No one cares that I have a college degree, if anything I’m “overqualified” for many jobs, but under qualified for others bc I lack experience. Experience I may have gotten if I wasn’t trying to get a degree. The typical responses I get to this…

“Attempt to deceive the public is offensive and in poor taste”

Applied for this job on Indeed and they quickly wanted to set up a phone interview. I responded with the automated date and time they sent to me for a phone interview two days from this point. The following day I get a message on Indeed that read: “I see that we had an interview scheduled for today that I was unaware of, my apologies. If you could please contact me directly at …., I would love to reschedule for an in person if possible. Please email me. Thank you.” I then sent an email stating the interview was not for another day and included the screen shot from Indeed with the interview time and date. The person then responds to adjust the time to be 30 minutes later. Fine, no big deal. I respond to confirm the details and address. Less than 10 minutes after I sent the email…

Is it normal for an “executive assistant” to handle the boss’ family matters?

I work at a relatively small company but my boss insists on having an Executive Assistant to schedule his meetings, flights, etc.. and also order materials and such around the office. But aside from company matters, my boss also has them scheduling doctors/dentist appointments, not only for himself but for his wife and children as well. He also has them ordering (and wrapping) presents for his kids and even booking venues for their birthdays. Basically anything involving his family, he has his assistant make the phone calls and do all of the research he could do himself. Are these normal tasks for an Executive Assistant? I’m confused as to where the line is drawn. He preaches Work/Life balance but he can’t even do things for his own family. Fyi: I’m not the Executive Assistant. Edit: My boss is deranged and has a lot of issues. My company’s turnover rate is…
