Month: February 2022
I currently work at a place I do actually, thoroughly enjoy being. I get along well with the majority of my coworkers, and the ones I've butted heads with have eventually found common ground in some form. It's still a WORK environment, not a social one, but the drama in my area of the world is extremely minimal. When I started I was hourly. Thanks to a borderline political fiasco, I got moved to salary, but I had to reapply for my job as though I was a new applicant. I had to prove why I was the better choice than any new candidate. A year or so later, HR found out I wasn't being paid the legal minimum for my job/position. That was a nice raise. Now the minimum for my position, posted online, has increased again. Mine has not. Last year I showed my boss that not only…
Two trial shifts?
My GF has just had a 3 hour trial shift with a restaurant, and they’ve asked her to do another ‘trial shift’ this week. I’ve explained to her I think the company is stiffing her, and that it’s likely they’re just asking her to do 6 hours work for free, but she’s arguing saying she wants the job and that the ‘pay is good if i get it’. She’s convinced that she basically already has the job, but in this case why wouldn’t she just be able to start doing paid work. Surely it isn’t normal to be asked to do two trial shifts? Should I try and convince her of this or let her do one more, but make sure she makes it the last free shift she does? I think she’s too taken by the lure of the job. If she gets it and the job is what…
I won’t go into too much detail, mostly because the title is basically it. They’re starting a new “mental health” insert vague non identifying industry product here, and I pay out of pocket for my therapist. It’s just the irony of it all lmao
I had been asking for months to have my rest days on and around my birthday because I had something planned. They did nothing about this, and berated me on the work floor about stuff that was my colleague doing, while we would never ever meet. I got sick. I handed a sick note. When I talked about my request they implied that I just took those sick days to play hookey, so I quit. On the day before my last day, I was called a complainer, so I finished up my tasks and left them hanging the next day. They are asking me for my uniform back, yet they decided to skip paying me for the 4 additional hours and kept on telling me that they wouldn't pay me for my early hours, as they weren't a charity. I did try to give them the benefit of the doubt…
I’ve been looking for a job since April-May of 2021 with very little luck. I got an immediate offer to work for an insurance company and took it out of fear that I wouldn’t find anything else. After about a month there I realized that they cared very little about workers (lack of COVID compliance, bureaucratic bullshit, shitty managers, etc) and that I needed to really start looking for something in my field while I had the relative financial stability to be selective. I started that position in August, and started applying for new jobs in October. By January my pay was lowered (it was a sales position based on commission with a small first year stipend) and my manager’s passive aggressiveness was at an all time high. I quit with 4 final interviews lined up, believing that being in the final round of interviews for 4 positions was secure…
