In the early 1980s, my boyfriend and I took a year off after high school before going to college. I worked at a fast food restaurant, my boyfriend worked as a bag boy at a grocery store. We rented a one-bedroom apartment. We were able to pay our bills, have a little fun, and save a little money for college. It appears that in 2022 this is not a viable scenario. We absolutely need to raise the minimum wage to something livable.

Boss tried to Gaslight me
So I called out of work today. I've been at this job 6 months and this is the second call out I've ever done. I'm not counting the two weeks I was out with Covid but they probably are. I called out today because I'm out of town for an emergency. The first thing my boss tries to tell me is my attendance is becoming an issue. “How so? I've been consistently early to my shift by no less than 10 minutes every day and only been late twice. This is my second call out.” It almost felt like he buckled to that but I know more would come down on my head if I pressed it.

My dad worked 30 years in the role as Superintendent before having a heart attack and retiring in 2013. My mother then inherited his job and role as a continuing employment. She received a major pay cut from my father due to what they labeled “inexperienced” My mother has worked as an employee on the complex for…
I have a confession to make
After doing so many interviews recently trying to convince people of my value to their business, I'm starting to feel like I'm lying to myself. I would just like to confess that no, I don't, in fact, care about how well I make or protect somebody else's money, I just want to make enough not to care, and have enough free time to spend it with my kids, my wife, and my dog. No, I am not passion driven, a go getter, or any other buzzword. I will not go above and beyond, I will do the bare minimum to keep my job, and I feel zero guilt about it. That's all, thanks for reading.
