I feel such a sense of relief not having to work for someone else and being able to connect with myself and the world around me. I haven't worked in 5 days due to quitting but am going to an interview tomorrow. In just these 5 days I've felt more fulfilled than I have in the past years of working. ​ Having awareness of myself, of my surroundings, taking in those small moments, are near impossible in work. “Fast paced,” they say. 8 hours of laser sharp focus and drive. Pretty much sums it up! I have no energy when I get home I spend my weekends recouping from work neglecting myself and my home. So tired of the rat race that is called the American dream! One push away from saying fuck it all!

I feel like I'm lucky since I have a job that isn't trying to make a profit but I don't know how much more I can take. I just moved to Massachusetts after teaching science and social studies in North Carolina and Georgia. I was good at teaching but I'm still trying to get certified in order to teach full time. As of now I'm teaching civics in Massachusetts and I think I want to quit and move on to other things. But I don't know if I want to keep doing this. The long hours, the disrespect from kids, and the not great pay is making me want to try other stuff. But I don't really know what else to do that could translate to a middle class existence. My girlfriend and I are trying for a baby so I feel this is a bad time to try and…

My dad owns a small business with 3 stores. During the pandemic, he had to shut down 1 store due to labor shortages and one of his employees deciding it was time to retire as he was old. It really sucked for him and the PPP loan was a great help. Now, his business is doing well again and he gave all his employees a bonus. Most of his employees have been with him for 10-20 years. Most of them stuck with him through the bad times and he sees it as his duty to reward them when the business is going through good times. I overheard him telling this to my mom and asked him about it. And he was like you “need to reward employees when they’re doing good because 1) they deserve it 2) they appreciate it. I've made a very strong case for at least trialling it for 6 months. The final hurdle is convincing the CEO, who wants to see examples of technology companies who have successfully transitioned. His main concern is that software developers need five days to get stuck into difficult work… I'm not a dev, so I can't speak to that with any authority, but it would seal the deal if I could point to dev teams that work well with this format. Do you know of any software companies who operate on a 4-day week? Much appreciated!!

I left my company at the beginning of the year when they want us to return to the office during the height of omicron. The company ultimately decided to push the return to office date to a later date. I was pretty much done with this company. We have made MILLIONS during the pandemic while working remotely. Upper management and board members even bragged these were are the most profitable years. But of course raises and bonuses kept getting smaller. More for them! I keep in touch with some of my close coworkers. Today my old coworker informed me that are making them return in March. With inflation and now increasing gas price, companies will start seeing more employees leaving. It doesn’t make sense to go back into the office if the work is getting done remotely. Sorry for my rant!
