What a nightmare!
Literally. I just woke up from a nightmare. In real life, I’ve worked at a desk most of my career, mostly as a paralegal. This morning, I dreamt I was a waitress at a nice restaurant. First, I’m in the bathroom for awhile, because well, I’m having abdominal issues. By the time I get out, I’m panicking because I can’t find my notebook to take orders. A coworker said she saw our boss purposely hide it from me, and there were notes in about my performance. I then go to my section and there are a dozen new tables seated. I tell everyone since I didn’t see the order they were seated, I was going to start in corner and make my way down the line. Also, as I was walking past another section, a customer at another table asked me for a scoop of ice cream. As I was…
As the title says. Email from VP talks about how we just had two “record-breaking months” in terms of growth and that we are “recovering nicely” from the aftermath of the pandemic. Who needs more money anyway? I would much rather prefer to wear sweatpants and a t-shirt to the office for a whole day. FYI, we are already allowed to wear jeans/tennis shoes throughout the week…
I’m a current junior working on my bachelors degree and a well rated college. I spent the entirety of last semester, winter break, and the summer break before that working on my portfolio website, resume, cover letter, and applying for internships for the upcoming summer. I have worked part time since I was 16 (including over covid) and got great grades in high school and have volunteer/extracurricular activities out the ass. I’ve pushed myself in college and have built a small but impressive portfolio of work that is class driven, self-directed, and for projects and groups that I took on as resume builders. I applied for 50 internships in my desired field and related ones over the course of December, January, and February. 6 companies have viewed my resume and profile but have not yet reached out. 9 contacted me inviting me for an interview, or requesting I completed a…
I work at a hospital and have been for about 5 years. It's not my background (graduated in Child and Family Development, have worked mostly with kids with mental issue including Special Education classrooms). When I started, I worked as a paraeducator (32 hours a week), coached wrestling at two schools, and still picked up hours from time to time at an adolescent psychiatric facility. I'm single, I'm busy, and that includes working 50-60 hours/week between these places. Over time, I cut back on other things, coached less, and only worked at my 'part time' hospital gig, which I turned into full time+ by picking up shifts, usually about 50-60 hours a week. Then, I get a promotion! Full time position at the hospital! More money! But I live in the bay area. It's expensive, I want to work more. So I make some calls and find out, yes, I…
Not for the salary and other stuff.
Have I been confused?
Why are we bending over backwards selling ourselves to companies for employment? Shouldn't it equally be, ” here's my “x” experience that matches your job requirements. Now, I can go work for ANY business and make them money, why would I want to make money for YOU? What sets YOU apart from everyone else?” I'm just a dumb carpenter, so excuse me, but I just can't wrap my head around this any longer. I've always felt this way, but figured I was one of only a few until I found this sub.
It's so frustrating. I've emailed 3 places and they just haven't got back to me. I've seen people post on here about similar situations. I don't understand why it isn't stated on the job ad….. Of course I want to know what the pay is before I apply for a job!!
So I work in Finance as an Analyst and my director just so happens to be an accountant that just feels the need to correct the way I do every little thing and not in a pedagogical manner like I understand that given the experience he has I can learn from him but the dude will literally ask me to modify perfect excel sheets just to fit what he thinks an analysis should look like then come back 5 minutes later to tell me to modify it back to what it was when I first sent it to him. I can’t stand this type of people I just i dont know i gotta vent so yeah thanks for reading
