I never thought this would be a serious saying in a business untill I heard it from the President of our 120 person specialty manufacturing company today. Our department was sent a meeting invite with HR, and a few managers. The 7 of us enter the room, sit and wait for HR to show up. She comes in, sheepish, and says she needs to speak with out Lead before continuing. They leave the room for 10 minutes. HR returns alone, and in comes the new department manager. We are informed of our leads termination and that we will answer directly to management now. Then the President comes in, visibly angered. He rails about the need for transparency with project management. That he will no longer tolerate any pushback about any decision made. There's little reason to have an office and desks for every person who works for your company in the internet age. I get the need for a space for some in-person business, but it's a fraction compared to what was needed in the past. The problem is the owners of office buildings are some of the most powerful people in America (which makes them oligarchs.) add that most loans, hedge funds, and other financial institutions have their investments and collateral tied up in those very same buildings. So they are more likely to assassinate the president than take a hit on that front. I've heard some small businesses can't get a loan unless they commit to having an office space. Banks create two revenue streams with this rule.

So I'm just curious as to what you guys would do in this situation. I set up a meeting for today to train two new coworkers over Zoom. One coworker didn't realize that I was still on the call at the end and made a comment about my appearance , whispering that I “definitely look different from my profile photo (on Zoom), that I “for sure don't look like that everyday”, and that “she can make a transformation too but damn”. I am so incredibly disgusted that someone would say this, especially considering this woman has 20+ years of experience in my field and is literally twice my age… I honestly already hate my workplace and this whole situation makes it worse. How would you guys approach this? Would talking to my boss do anything? I have absolutely no desire to do any further training with this woman.

Every day on our break, we would walk over to the 7-11 near our building and she would buy a lottery scratch ticket. One day, she scratched her ticket and won $1. We went back to the office and she resigned her position. She had won the lottery. She found a new position as a stripper, which was something she had always wanted to do, and was much happier. I always admired her for having the courage to do that.
