Aside from retail jobs in high school and college, I've never worked a professional job that was located anywhere near where I lived. I know there are jobs that do what I do near my home, but for some reason they always pass me over and I'm hired somewhere far away (Usually 2-4 hours' of commute time per day). It's not like I'm living in the middle of nowhere, I've always lived in major metropolitan hubs. I actually had to get a second car because I was hired at a job outside of our public transit system. The job paid slightly more than my previous one, but after the lease payment/insurance/gas/parking fees I was bringing in less than $1,000 a month. But it was the only way I could get to work to make money. This was interesting because it was in a very rich area, but no one who…

What exactly do recruiters do?
I'm job searching at the moment and have been getting contacted by recruiters through email and LinkedIn. I've never had this happen before, but I've had phone interviews with some. The interviews go well, they push my application through, and then…Nothing. They don't respond to emails or phone calls, even though they were open to communication during the initial parts of the interaction. I know that a lot of recruiters are scams, but this also happens with reputable recruiters. I've had several people tell me that recruiters are a waste of time and they've never been hired through one. The recruiters know nothing about the companies or the type of work you do, they just need to contact a certain amount of people per day and just throw shit at the wall until the company hires someone through them and gives them a commission.
I gave in my two weeks notice to a company I’ve worked at three years. I was treated like dog shit from day one. I was called everything from stupid to being physically pushed by superiors. So naturally, after finding a new job I simply did not give a fuck. I came in 5 or 6 minutes late everyday for the last week and a half. I do not plan on returning to this company. Today, my boss informed that I will be docked an hour for every 5 minutes I’ve been late. This is due to the fact that we can only charge our time by the hour supposedly. I do not clock in, my foreman keeps my time on his iPad. If they aren’t allowed to do this what should be my proceeding steps from here?
What does everyone here do for work?
Problems with management
I work in retail and there’s a girl the same age as me that just became a manager that’s on my shift. She stays on my ass about getting work done but she won’t stay on the people that walk around like braindead zombies. I have to rely on my coworkers to get things done because everything requires teamwork but she doesn’t say anything to them. She also tells upper management anything I say or do. She is always putting me down. I used to enjoy working here because of the people but now I feel like I’m not appreciated.
I hope this sub is the right place, if not I’ll delete it. I’m a teacher. I love teaching, but I’m completely burned out. I need a break. Fresh out of college, I was a special ed aide. I loved it! I loved the kids and I loved the work. It was a great job. I wish I could do that full time. But I can’t afford to do that forever. Why is the world like this? A really passionate person wants to do a full time job she would love, but can’t afford to. Why are there jobs a person can do full time where they can’t afford to live?
Know Your Value
Seeing a lot of pro WFH posts lately, and totally agree with the sentiment. Just wanted to add that if you're someone that can WFH but prefers being in the office, make sure you're getting paid for it. Ppl prefer WFH generally, so if you're in the office try to leverage it for higher pay, if your company doesn't have the WFH benefit, put a dollar value on it.
Got “let go” from a gym you spell
I was a model employee. The facility had terrible management, from the very top down to the directors of specific departments. I voiced a few concerns that I believed needed to be brought to their attention. Fellow employees came to me with their concerns too and I did my job as best I could to help. Upper management said, “no it’s not” and “it wasn’t like that”. Nepotism? Potential sex offenders? At my 30 day review we agreed that this may not be a good fit for me because of my “beliefs”. Not sure if anyone else has worked at a gym that you spell the name of but it’s not very fun when you work there.
Edit: This is also meant to be advice for anyone looking for a new job right now. My annual raise was subpar despite great performance so I'll be joining the great resignation in 2 months. This will be my first time looking for work in 7 years. How do you get more offers, more money, better hours?
