4 years working though major depression as an early years educator on workfare scheme, kids and parents love me, worked though the high of the pandemic because our service looks after at risk children. Amazing boss with a not so great pay
I just wanted to share my experience at my current job and show a bit that even when I'm not getting paid an adequate amount, I still want to work here for the time being just because of the great work environment. I work in software engineering and this is an entry level job. I work from home on a flexible schedule. I can work at whatever time I like, except for meetings, that are not too many. My boss is the absolute best; he is really knowledgeable and very approachable in regards of running into roadblocks and helping us out. He is a professor as well and is really good at explaining things. I learned more in the first months of this job, than I ever did in school. I've gone through 2 rounds of virtual interviews with this company with the same HR person. Every single time I've spoken to them it sounds like they're falling asleep. I try to list my accomplishments that would make me an ideal candidate and there's barely a response, they just move on to the next question on their list. At my second interview I got the feeling they didn't remember anything about my first interview. I was hoping after 2 interviews with the same HR drone that my next interview would be with someone from my team, who would actually understand what my skills are and how I would be an asset. Trying to find a new job
I’m currently in the process of trying to find a new job. I’ve been working freelance/doing Instacart for a couple months now after quitting a toxic job and it’s just not cutting it. As I’ve been applying/interviewing and such, I’ve really been interested in other peoples experiences with this during these times. Those of you in similar situations, what is the best advice you can give to others in the same boat? Those of you who have good/high paying jobs, can you tell me what you did to achieve that? My company is just implementing an invasive tool called ActivTrak. It’s literally spying on my works, and I'm using a personal computer. I’m curious if you have any experience dealing with these tracker tools. Do you know how to bypass their spyware? What can I do to protect my privacy? I’m thinking of making a public open letter with the headline being targeted to companies using these tools. Something not only my coworkers, by more people can sign as a petition. Let me know what companies should I mention if you’re targetted with boss/spywares. We already have an active union.
Edit: Oops, messed up the title a bit but it still works. This story is a bit older – happened before I knew about this sub. But I feel like I can share that here. Basically it was a minimum wage job where I would stand all day and put things in boxes. Pissy team lead called me
So, my team lead just called me to talk about a report that is due. She also had another supervisor on the line so that I “could explain a few things.” Team lead took the responsibility two months ago to work on a report. I’ve been responsible for this report for the last several years. It takes me a few hours to complete it. Team lead has spent the last few weeks asking everyone except me for resources and examples of reports. Also, wanted to know how I scored projects for this report. I stopped trying to talk while on this call, since I was talked over anyway. While on this call, I emailed the lead with examples of scoring tables and resources that I use.
