As we're seeing worker's rights becoming sidelined by corporate interests and bottom dollars( in the US at least), what would be a unifying call to figurative arms for the middle and lower class to unilaterally decide that enough is enough? Would it be soaring gas prices or blatant corporate bribery in the form of lobbying and wage theft? What would the mob decide is the last straw before refusing to work? Just curious is all.
I know I'm not the only complaining about gas prices but seriously! I am looking for a new job but live in a small town with almost nothing available. Any job I find I will have to commute to which royally sucks. With gas prices the way they are all my money will go to gas. It is absolute bullshit. I mean a person is damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Saw a post recently about this sub not talking about anything other than office work and I've personally noticed that most posts are American, so I thought I might finally share this story to offer perspective from the catering business. Sorry for formatting. I got a job as a waitress at my local pub (very rural England). The landlord was a relatively well-liked man who had made it clear previously he wanted to sell up and move elsewhere, but was still hiring. The pub is small so he asked me to come down and do some “training” on the job. I was told it was a waitressing job, so when he started showing me around the kitchen and how I should be using the sinks I was a little confused but stuck with it. This was very informal and was only really a trial. Landlord essentially doesn't tell me how…
I dropped the “Bachelor's Degree Required” line. There's nothing about the job (mid-level sales) that requires a degree. If you're at the level we need, you have the experience. We'll see if anyone catches it once we start getting applicants.
Istg I could live on this feeling alone. Is this what stress free feels like? Is this happiness? Do I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders, yes. I can't wait for them to ask why I'm leaving so I can tell them I have accessible and affordable health insurance, 401k with a match program, and vacation from DAY 1, oh and that 5 dollar an hour pay raise, for a job with less stress.. Im tired of these managers saying leave if your not happy. Bet. And why is it always the managers of shit jobs that say if you can find better to leave? Like you realize you're pushing your employees out the door into the arms of other companies? Who will give them what they ask for…but let's complain about the shortage of workers..
The deli manager at my store is, And i say this with all due respect, a bitch. Imagine a horrible boss and that's her. Well almost all of our twenty some Deli staff has quit or she fired them due to not wanting overtime. Well I overheard a conversation between her and our general manager talking about the 5 employees (including her daughter) that remain. I quote “yeah I'm making them take overtime, (insert name) is working open to close 4 days this week and it's gonna stay like that. They're gonna be miserable and grumpy, but hey the deli is gonna stay open.” I'm so glad I've put in my two weeks already.
I figured you guys might appreciate this petty bitch energy I've got going on right now: For context, I work as a writer for a huge blog. We have millions of subscribers and my articles regularly get 100k+ views. I was going to write up a feature article on this little restaurant and had it almost all outlined (ie, most of the work was already done) and THEN I saw while getting photos from their Facebook that they post stupid shit about “nOboDy WaNtS tO WOrK AnYmOrE” …so I went ahead and deleted my progress and will be featuring another restaurant instead. Feature articles on this blog typically bring in lots of interest and new customers, butttt sucks to suck so it'll go to someone else. Sure, I have to rewrite a whole new article for a new place, but oh well I was pleased to see in the comments…
