food for thought: the push for wfh isn’t all good. it collapses the distinction between public and private, work and home, play and labor, and shits the responsibility for providing necessary work amenities from the corporation to the individual.

listen, i am all about advocating for modern and contemporary work situations. for so many, wfh can provide equity. parents have flexibility with their child care. long commutes don’t exist. flexibility in the work day can support a wide set of cultural and social practices. but also, wfh needs to come with corporations supporting this transition. stipend for high speed wifi? home office supply budgets including ergonomic desks and chairs? rent subsidization so that you can afford a second bedroom as an office? im skeptical of a world where our homes also become the total sites of our labor and the production of value. id love to know others’s thoughts!

Feeling stuck where I am

Posting at work. I work at a small company for two bosses that treat me fine but are shit to everyone else. I'm in a dual role that I hate and wish I was doing only one or the other. I feel like its only a matter of time for them to treat me like shit for not being excellent at two jobs at once. Been working here nearly a year and I was promised health insurance after 3 months. I'm thinking about applying to other places to see if I could actually find other work, but I'm scared of job hopping. My family needs the money (4 adults, me working full time and another working part time if that). However, my wife and I have begun the immigration process for her to live in my country. We need the health insurance from work in case anything happens. But it…

Am I being discriminated against?

I’ve been a legal assistant for the past five years at a small law firm. I was about to quit after one year of employment due to the micromanaging and racist manager. I had already turned in my resignation when the owner offered me a work from home position. I got a 10-hour reduction, only working 30 hours a week but I got to work from home so I agreed. Ever since, I’ve been constantly overlooked for promotions, raises, 401k, etc… last year, I finally had it and told them that it had been four years and I’ve never gotten a raise. They agreed to give me one but I didn’t get one this year. I know other employees get a review every year and depending on their performance they get a raise, however I’ve never gotten a performance review. Their policy states that you qualify for a 401(k) after…

Does any one have any good suggestions for work from home/remote customer service/data entry jobs currently hiring?

My agoraphobia and anxiety has became so bad the past year or so that I literally don’t think I can handle doing in person work anymore after my last office job left me with even worse depression and social anxiety. I don’t want to deal with being in a in person work setting for as long as I can help it, I just want to be able to clock in, do my job and clock out. I’m tired of pretending I’m okay and faking a smile as I have to be around coworkers who seem to have severe untreated issues and get off on creating drama, being rude to each other, talking shit about each other and smiling in their faces etc. I’m over dealing with “office politics”. This type of environment has had very negative effects on my mental health as well as my personal life. I just really…

I’m scared to start a traditional job

Back in September I finished two uni degrees, one in 3D Animation and the other in Concept Art. The catch? I never really wanted to study anything, I never ever dreamed of getting a job. At some point my parents found a university related to videogames/animation (they know I love videogames), and at the moment I was forced to check it out, because if I didn't the tensions in the house would get off the charts. Mainly due to the fact that the year prior I didn't do nothing but play videogames. So I went to uni and studied as hard as I could. I ended up enjoying a lot of it, I did a bunch personal projects where I could share stories that I was passionate about. I loved those bits, I did some animations, cool drawings and concepts. I had crazy good grades I even got a scholarship…
