like clockwork, I’m contemplating quitting my job and I feel distraught

Venting, I guess. I (28F) have a tendency to job hop, with the longest position I've ever worked being about 3 years (tech call center). Moved to a big city in the U.S. for better job opportunities, got picked up by a staffing agency, and now working for them as a contractor. (I'm thankful they vet jobs for me and offer insurance! Wish I could earn PTO, though.) First place they hooked me up with, another tech call center, had shit management, kept pushing back my contract end date, understaffed, and in the process of being bought out with zero confirmation of who is staying. I left after 6 or so months. Now I've been working at this place (tech support) for about 6 months and I feel like quitting again. But this is the highest paying job I've ever had (18$ USD an hour), the best direct manager I've…

Pay for my car usage

Kinda what the title says. I work for [Censor] [Censor] [Law Enforcement] as a clerk. I know, it's shit and they're shit but they pay and have benefits. A few weeks ago we had an ice storm that made the streets pretty bad, but due to being an “essential worker” calling in meant being unable to use sick/comp time. So I went in, got maybe 3 miles from my home when my car hit ice and slid into the curb at a weird angle. This hit messed up my wheel, my tire, and also (apparently Two pieces of hardware behind the wheel(the ball joint and the bottom support strut). Limped my car home, called in from lack of transportation for the next two days. Companies should not require ANYONE to be out in unsafe conditions without covering the vehicle and more importantly the person in it. If you bust a…

Asked if I’d be willing to come into the office once a week incase there is an emergency

My manager asked me today if I’d be willing to start coming into the office once a week incase an emergency comes up. This isn’t a hey if there is an sycamore you come in. It’s hey come in once a week and see if there is an emergency. In the 2.5 years I’ve worked here the number of situations that required someone in the office has been zero. My response was that i get more work done from home and also I’d be the only one on my team that has to do this. Im also paid considerably less than the other person in my position ( over $15k more a year difference) even though I’ve been there longer and often have to help the other person with their projects due to having more experience. If they want someone to waste there time driving into an office once a…

There is absolutely no path to wealth/security for people with “regular jobs”

I have been thinking about this for a while, since I left the abysmal land of tech (SF) after getting an equity payout at my last company. There really is absolutely no way to get wealthy/have financial security unless you're an insanely successful entrepreneur (ie go through an acquisition), work in corporate finance, or work in real estate. That's honestly it. Oh, or if you have really rich parents and generational wealth is in the cards for you. Maybe a highly-specialized lawyer or doctor too? I “interface” (gross, I hate that word) with lots of very successful people on a day-to-day basis, but most of my friends have “normal jobs.” Teachers, nurses, etc. The only people with normal jobs who were able to purchase a home have rich parents who gave them money for a down payment. I am not in that group. The rest of my friends are struggling…

Shame about working at an unethical place

Hey all, I am a 20yrF nursing student who has been trying to find a summer job. I have not had much luck. The only place that has firmly offered me a job is Marine Land (for all non-Canadians Marine Land is like SeaWorld if not a tad bit worse). I love animals and marine life especially and I feel a lot of shame and embarrassment at the fact that I am even thinking about accepting a job at such a bad place. Is it worth it to sacrifice my morals for 3 months in order to continue to pay for my education? Should I just apply to fast food places and accept that fact that I would be making much less money and therefore would be jeopardizing my future? I am going to continue to apply to healthcare jobs and hope for the best. If anyone has any words…

Being made to wait 2 weeks before a disposable job starts.

For background I have a side gig that sometimes pays well sometimes pays crap. So I usually work a disposable job that will pay at least $15 an hour to guarantee I'll make my payments. My last disposable job let me go because I didn't meet a sales quota. So I was offered another disposable job at $15 an hour and told to wait until the drug test and criminal background test came back and then they would schedule an orientation. So I stopped looking for disposable jobs and figured how long can this crap take? Maybe a couple of days? So a week later I'm regretting that I stopped looking for a disposable job and I find out they finally got my criminal background check and drug check back. And they can't schedule my orientation so I can start for another 6 days because as the HR person says…

Has anyone here ever been treated so poorly at a past job that they love pizza parties and company happy hours at their current job?

I went from one job where I wasn't trained and then got screamed at for fucking up while not having a lunch break for over 6 months. Then I went to a job where we had monthly pizza parties and snacks in the break room. I was so grateful they actually considered our need for food that the stale donuts were like heaven.
