I work at the newly bought Eaton plant in Iowa. They bought us from a holding company, that had bought us even earlier, for 2.8 BILLION dollars. Just in 3Q 2021 just our facility gave them 170 million in PROFITS. Now, as we are entering the third week of the strike they are hiring not just temporary replacement workers, but permanent ones. They are sending nasty letters in the mail to intimidate us into crossing the picket line. Saying that our jobs aren't guaranteed under the law and that we have until the 9th to go back to work. They have cut off our health care. They have brought in about 50 temps, lol we are around 350, to do out work. As much as I despise the US military industrial complex, we make life support equipment, so while it contributes to any war or imperial effort, I still want…
Month: March 2022
so we’ve all seen how inflation is starting to get pretty intense here in the US. been to a grocery store lately? a fast food business? yeah.. pretty bad. my theory is with the rising wages across the US, employers are purposefully raising prices much more than they would need to be to make up for the “lost revenue” of paying employees enough money to fuckin live. it makes sense- now’s their chance to be as greedy as they want with price raising and blame it all on their employees just wanting enough money to be self sufficient. my example of a case like this: in 2020, Mcdonald’s paid their workers in Denmark $22 (USD) an hour, and their burgers cost $4.09 (USD). in this same year, their workers in the United states made $11 (USD) an hour while burgers cost us $5.66 (USD). seems a bit strange that, despite…
If it’s slow, why not?
Being a Salary Employee Sucks
So I've been at my current job for about 11 years. I started making a salary of $1000 per week once covid and things hit, and my hours all went crazy. I work a lot of hours, usually I'm in the office by 7am and don't leave until 5pm. Then, when I'm home, I'm still checking emails , scheduling, and answering texts. I also get 2 weeks paid vacation, and everyone does after 5 years. There are no other benefits whatsoever. Since it is salary pay, there is no overtime, and I wonder if I'd be better off being paid hourly. Only 3 people get paid salary and one requested to be paid hourly, so she gave him almost no work to make a point like look you don't make anything now. Now, if there's ever a slow week or I need to cut out early for kids, she tells…

Is this bullying?
I need some advice as far as how to handle a workplace situation. Long story short, I no longer feel welcome around a certain person. We never had a beef, as far as I know, but they react kindly around other people, talk to other people. But when I'm around, I'm excluded, talked over or ignored. The one time they acknowledged me was when I asked a question and they asked “what” in a way that told me to shut up because no one cares. So I shut down, said “nevermind” and left. Other than that, it's not malicious. It's just a feeling like I don't belong, or that they don't want me there. I told my higher up and that's about it. Is this something serious?
Insurance of what?
Paid disability insurance for 10+ years in a career I gave everything to, simultaneously keeping up with psychotherapy and psychiatrists. Used every resource they theoretically provide career professionals in service of wellness; I did yoga, y’all. I changed my diet. I kept journals, notes, mood logs. I studied everything you can study in the American workplace without making yourself fringe. I was rotting from the inside but still did the timesheets, reported to my desk, tried to solve unsolvable problems and waited for payday to come and give me two more weeks on earth. Finally I said uncle last summer and filed for disability. My short term claim went through after the company combed a decade of my intimate notes and feelings— but I had checked every single box you could check. Relieved and grateful for a tenuous relief, I laid out plans to spend two years recovering, rebuilding, and…
