Remote work will hurt us long term.
(X-posted in a few subs) If there is one thing Americans can count on, it’s for corporations to find a way to make money. While employees are generally happy working from home (not having any commute time, saving gas, wear and tear on vehicles, not having to eat out for lunch, etc), I feel that companies will use this against employees by outsourcing work, not out of country, but to other states. Hear me out: since so many people went remote, people have moved to areas for better standard of living, as they no longer need to stay by the office. Companies know this. Take a look at the cost of living for New York, California, any larger state, and then compare to states such as Mississippi or Kansas. Now imagine a large corporation hiring for a decent remote position. What incentives do companies have to hire someone in state?…

Has anyone been in work environment where they felt they were set up to fail? I recently left a workplace after working there for 5 months. My manager and I had a complicated relationship from the first week. I was told I have time to learn and grow. However, I was told early on my skillset wasn’t up to par. It was strange to work in an environment that labeled itself as free, only to then be punished from selecting the wrong option. During my last week I was utterly over it and subsequently just said how I felt. It obviously didn’t work out. Does anyone have similar experiences?
I'm about 8 minutes from my job but my job in pa wants me to drive anywhere with in 100 miles of my house 9f they need me in different places. Is this legal?
This is our life
Hi guys. First post here. Thought I would share an experience which has rocked me to my core this week just passed at work. So, I live in Queensland, and last Saturday we experienced torrential levels of rain, resulting in “major” flooding, with the water reaching its peak on monday morning. The flooding got so bad it was classified as a state-wide emergency, resulting in insane levels of property damage and numerous deaths. In terms of my own area, the surrounding streets had turned into a swamp with pungent green water, with houses all along our street, particularly more low-lying properties, getting completely flooded. The only reason our apartment was not flooded was due to our property being slightly elevated, with many steps. I really thought at one point that we would need to evacuate, and possibly move to higher ground. Thankfully this did not happen but was a legitimate…
Fuck the throwaway I need some serious help, to put it shortly, I work in retail making $16.50 per hour, we’re 3 people doing the job of five and management refuses to hire more people, people are leaving and planning on leaving and the only people that are staying are the more senior workers that are old and abused by management, I don’t know what union to contact and who which person specifically, I’m in the state of Connecticut, if anyone has any info please don’t hesitate to share, it would mean a lot! Thank you
Is it worth my time applying?
Is it just my local area, or is everyone else finding potential employers won't disclose a pay rate until after you're offered an interview? Some places are paying much less than what they should but you don't know until you've jumped through all the hoops…
She refused to cover the hostess stand so I could go on break. Instead, she napped for two hours straight and got mad at me when I didn’t give her tables when she was sleeping (she waits tables with us). My break is supposed to be an hour and a half. I am in my pj’s. Turning my phone off and getting wine. I can get another job tomorrow.
My friend works to deliver papa johns pizza. They get a base pay of 6.00 while driving and 11 while working in the store. They are compensated 24 CENTS PER MILE. and gas has gone up 85 cents (USD) in ONE WEEK. It is over 4.00 now and we don’t even live in a big city. They can drive 100 miles or more in one shift and normally fill up every 3-4 days. They drive a Honda with great mpg too. It’s unsustainable. they have to front the money for the gas and get compensated the same 24 cents no matter how much it goes up! We are considering striking at the store, and would like some input to what other gas-dependent drivers and delivery drivers think. What tips do you have for striking over gas prices???? Has anyone heard of strikes over gas prices yet?
