My boss’s boss’s boss is quitting
My medical lab has an aggressive turnover rate. A job as a lab tech requires an Associate's degree, offers overpriced and piss poor health insurance, and pays $17 an hour. Accordingly, we don't get the smartest, hardest working, most attentive people. I can't blame them – I'm exploring my options, too. Because the job is something of a dead end, my boss's boss's boss put in her two weeks and there is no one available to replace her. The solution? Every supervisor is now responsible for two work areas instead of just one. They must now share responsibility with another supervisor, which means no one has total decision making authority. They have twice as many people to be responsible for and they don't get a raise or more work hours. To top it all off, they have no extra time to be cross trained because the decision is effective immediately.…
I would also encourage other employees to do the same and give them a safety net of money, housing, etc if they get fired. It would be so fun 😀

They haven't even implemented it yet. It's the same crap we see other companies getting roasted around here for. The pay RANGE for their minimum paid positions will be $15-$24 if it's actually implemented. It will be dependant on things like location and experience. You think most employees will be earning the very top of that range? These positions aren't even full time so they don't have to pay benefits. It's still not a living wage.
I have experienced this over and over in my career as an educator. No matter how many times the scenery has changed, one thing remains constant: type of person who ends up being in charge. Those who are in charge have a very basic authoritarian personality that ranges in intensity on a continuum of how this manifests, but the presentation is always consistent: they are in these positions of control over others because being in control of others is their entire raison d'etre. None of them have ever been remarkably more talented than those of us on the lower rungs. They certainly aren't more remarkably intelligent, and most often, aren't even experienced in any way that is remarkable. They are all the same type of mean, narrow person who has risen up to be in charge simply because they have put their energy into climbing up into positions of being…
