Too many families are still struggling with higher costs. I get it. Our top priority must be getting prices under control. That’s why we’re going to create more jobs that you can earn a living, a good living, right here in America, and invest in infrastructure and innovation.— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) March 4, 2022

Long story short: they worked over 80 hours over a six day period. The company's official workweek has been and is Thursday-Thursday, basically. As such, conveniently for them, the checks were split up into two ~40 hour checks – instead of an 80+ hour check with lots of OT pay. They called the state's labor line, to which ended up getting routed to some national help-line, where they were informed that since the company has ~always had the same workweek (they didn't change it for the event, in other words), then it's legal and there's nothing you can do about that. Such is the “luck” of when they started the event/working and so on. Seems to me such a law/rule would be ripe for exploitation. And, as we can see here, it is – coincidence or not. Anyone have any insight andor resources?
Heard a rumor, curious if it’s true
So a while back, I heard an interesting little rumor about grocery stores (or basically any business). Struck me that I would see if anyone else had heard the same thing/ knew if this was true or not. So I once heard that most stores that ask if you’d like to donate money to XYZ charity, use that money as a tax write off. Not donate and match, just straight up donate and write it off as if they were using their own money. Anyone know if that’s true? I know there is also the possibility that they are simply pocketing most of the money (especially if they go over there projected donation amount).
I saw this r/ and remembered this comic.
ZERO F*CKS GIVEN, just having a rant
My boss tried to guilt-trip me into coming into work early coz he fell ill.. for some context, I'm 2nd in charge so the responsibility rest on my shoulders when he's not there. Anyway, this dude has to re-learn boundaries and has a knack of sending msgs while I'm still off the clock. Partly my fault, as I've encouraged this kind of behaviour coz I'm unfortunately a people-pleaser and I'm trying to rehabilitate from this toxic mindset. Lol. Anyway, he often sends cryptic 1 or 3-word msgs to test if ppl will actually respond to him, instead of being direct and upfront about shit coz I fear it's his constant need for validation as he's clearly not getting it from his own home? Poor thing. He sent me a msg about 4 and a half hours before my scheduled shift, saying “I'm sick OMGG” like a 12-yr old starved for…
Have you every notice that corporate values seem to be the same for most organisations, just worded differently? Make good words Don't be a dick Be safe Don't be dodgy and steal stuff Be on time. One that used to be important but has been removed: Some variant of “We employ the best people.” But is rarely a core value anymore because “We employ affordable people” doesn't look good on a poster. Context: I had to do an electronic reference for a friend applying for an entry level position, and they asked 20 questions of which 15 were the same three questions about the 5 core company values. How does the applicant score on expectations for “insert corporate Value”? How have they improved in “Insert corporate value” as you've known them? What's an example of their “insert corporate value”? When in my opinion the other 5 questions were more important.…
