Would your boss be there? Would they even notice? Would they care? I saw a caricature once of the boss screaming onto someone in a casket: “How could you do this to me?!” I thought this is ridiculous. They'd be way too “busy” to come to the funeral and would probably fire me for not showing up to work before they find out I'm dead.
While some of us have outright toxic work environments, others don’t. On this subreddit we hear about people leaving toxic, low-paying jobs for higher paying jobs. Which is great! However, some of us find ourselves stuck between a rock and a hard place. We stay at low-paying jobs because we like our coworkers and the work environment is nice BUT are too scared of leaving our current job because we don’t want to end up with a high paying job that might have a toxic work environment. Of course, all situations are unique and everyone faces different hardships. But I just thought I’d give my two cents on why “get a higher paying job” isn’t always an easy decision, especially if you like your current coworkers.
Job called asking me to come back
I worked as a Direct Support Professional for a group home of individuals with disabilities. I enjoyed my job but hate the company. I was always mandated to work 16hrs 6days a week, I’ve lost holidays with my family due to working there, and due to refusing to follow restrictions placed by my doctor, I fell at work while pregnant and went into labor. I care very much for those I worked for but I refuse to go back to that environment and did not return to work after maternity leave. Today I received a phone call. Due to being employed through the pandemic (forced to work with insane shortage but required to keep up the same quality of care with increased hours?!?) , they claim I MAY qualify for additional payment benefits through these programs IF I return to work. So IF I return to a job that treats…
8 hour bingo game…..
I do make good money and have some pretty good benefits but for “employee appreciation” day we play an 8 hour game of bingo. We get a link to a bingo card and every half hour they email a number until someone wins. The prize? Another email that says congrats you won bingo. To go with the email from the CEO saying how much they appreciate us. Why tf even bother?
I'll start this by saying that i'm from México so the laws are a bit different and i'm not looking for legal advice i just want to vent. Just like the title says, i got a whole day of work discounted from my salary because i got married on a saturday and didnt work that day. My boss is my stepfather and he was one of my wittness and went to the party too. I couldnt get married on a sunday, my only free day, because the goverment offices are closed that day. I'm a dentist and i've been working with my stepfather since i was 16 years old (i'm almost 30 right now). I'm not going to go into much detail, but right now i do five different jobs: i'm a dentist, a dental assistant, ocasional recepcionist, i reclute and train new employees, i'm in charge of some dental…
