I'm doing interviews for internships (a 5-week internship is required to complete my tech program at school). A lot of internships turn into fulltime positions for students almost immediately, so I've been mindful of where I apply. I interviewed with a place today that is notoriously slow in their communications with incoming employees but tout themselves as an ever-expanding company. I researched the company beforehand to see what kind of work they do and expected them to get into more detail in the interview. They didn't, everything they told me was readable on their website which is already kind of vague. I asked them about their work culture. I've spent the last ten years working in very chaotic and unstructured environments, and I don't want to get involved in another place that is constantly chaotic with no leadership. When I posed this question, one of the people conducting the interview…

Company’s stupid PTO policy
Three weeks ago I turned in my notice after getting a better job offer that pays more and is permanently work from home. I found out after I turned in my notice of resignation that I will not get any sort of PTO payout at the end and once my notice was submitted I was no longer allowed to use any of my accrued PTO. Overall had felt okay about the company I worked for but this just felt like a slap in the face on the way out.
I’m just physically and mentally done
When I say severely ill I mean mentally and physically. I work as a cover guard what means I work multiple different sites throughout the week, and I'm a doormen (what entails it's own problems.) Now,for months I've been on and off with my mental health but it's not been this bad in a while (I do believe it's due to me asking for more hours as I'm wanting to move out of my home city as I've just had enough of city life) but to be honest I've been like this for a while. We have a site we now own security wise in the countryside and I love it due to it being very quiet so I'm able to sort through alot of things mentally and physically down there, but I haven't been down there in a while even when I've asked to be put there permanently,I know why this…
Fun(!) work social events!
I am leaving my job in 3 months. Obligation to attend bullshit work socials?
Zoom interviews
Hello, I have an important zoom interview coming up in a few days. I have never done an important interview without shoes on, but I also don't wear shoes in the house. What do most people do during a zoom interview from home, wear shoes or don't wear shoes?
Started my new job last month and am immediately noticing coworkers aren't getting breaks as promised. Entitled to 2 15 minute breaks per day and one unpaid 30 minute lunch. Well we start at 8. And some coworkers and i aren't taking lunch till about 3pm. And other coworkers aren't taking their 15s at all. I'll take my “15 minute” but it'll last maybe 4 minutes. I remember reading here that if you don't take a half hour lunch break 5 hours after working you are entitled to time and a half. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I tried looking it up and it seems this may only apply to minors Edit: this is New Jersey. And it appears there is no guarantee of a break. Can anyone confirm for NJ specifically?
I have seen many posts from people on this and similar subs in which people talk of horrible conditions/pay, nearly as poor conditions as legally possible. You then see people in comments or on the following post on the sub share their story and their bad day is a paradise for many others. If you are a lucky one making more than 40k a year and don't shed actual blood, sweat, and tears at work, can you please leave some bread crumbs for those of us who are trying but have no clear path to success? No implication that those who have a good job did not work for their position, just pointing out that one way to help your fellow workers/class is just sharing some helpful advice if you have it. I'm also aware that many who are in a comparatively successful role may have gotten their with out…
