Has anyones company set a RTO date recently then change it to give people the option to stay fully remote? It’s crazy how covid just disappeared when a war started… but whatever… that’s not what I’m as mad about… With all of the rising prices most people are making a lot less than they did a year ago technically. Any companies letting you remain remote so people can save money on daycare, gas, and other costs? To spend money on gas, food, clothes, and other things just to go into the office 2-3 times a week would cost around an extra 200-400 a month… would rather save that money working from home… I looked at my teams schedule for for a first week back and we have 1, 30 minute meeting planned for less than 5 people. The other meetings are still virtual due to most of the team being…
Month: March 2022
From getting their mail to delivering packages to other managers offices, my job as a software engineer has somehow become an internal UPS job because my boss is too lazy to get up and do it himself.
I was sitting at my desk and a couple guys I work with walk by and one of them throws a fake punch at my face, missing me by an inch. I say what the fuck and his response was, “I was just joking.” as they both giggle. This has caused a lot of anxiety to me as I had grown up with some quick smacks to the face from dear old dad. Stomach has turned to water. It's going to fuck with production if I say anything but this place was more than happy to write me up for dropping an innocent f-bomb in front of a female coworker a couple years ago. It's not going to be good for any of us if I say anything.
Company vacation??
My company scheduled a “work family vacation” for a week, and says we should all attend. You know what’s more fun than vacation with coworkers? Literally anything else. I hate this mandatory fun bs, I swear I’m on my last leg with corporate America.
When I got my first job in 2016, I worked in a warehouse that packaged sports merchandise. I worked with a former Marine who was going through hard times with PTSD. Long story short, my boss fired him, and he lost his girlfriend, and turned a shotgun on himself. When my coworker told my boss about the news, he fucking laughed like someone told him the best joke ever. It was no secret he didn’t like him, but no one thought that would be his reaction. All I could ask my self is “if instead of killing himself, what if he turned that gun on you for the mistreatment?” Would you have been laughing if he decided he was fine with throwing his life away to see yours end? With covid, and seeing people mistreated, thrown away, and their mental health deteriorate because companies would rather make record breaking profit…
I’m a non-white 30 year old working in an industry that is conservative and mostly white. I made a comment to my new boss (white) that I believe all companies don’t really care about diversity and they’re just doing it for a tax write off and lip service. (Talking out of my ass). He explained that while that may be true for some companies, he’s seeing most candidates in their early 20s are asking about this and what the company is doing. Also they’re seeing candidates turning down hybrid schedules, and desire full remote flexibility. The company has been making changes to the written policy to allow for this. The point is that I’m happy to see that young graduates are not afraid to grill the interviewers on these things. When I graduated I had a mindset of desperation. I accepted abuse in the workplace and never stood up for…
I’ll start this off by saying quit any job that doesn’t benefit you. So many places need employees. We’re the supply in demand rn I’ll give my favorite two quitting stories of this last year. The first was Starbucks. I worked there for less than a month. The main reason I quit was because I asked for Christmas Day and the two days after off because my mom had rented a cabin so we could safely take a vacation for the first time in 2 years. My manager denied my first request and I was told it was because I didn’t put a reason as to why I wanted the time off. Shouldn’t have to put a reason but whatever. So I put my reason and sent it again. She replied “We discussed at your interview you wouldn’t get holidays off.” 1st. No we didn’t. I was just told that…
