I’ve been at this job for 10 months. $26/hr, benefits, work on my own but it is soul sucking. My former employer contacted me a couple weeks ago and asked if I would consider coming back. I left because of pay but they worked out a deal with the union to add a couple more tiers to the pay scale for the job. I went to see him last week to go over what they had to offer. The pay isn’t quite what I’m making now but the work is way more in line with my skills. They offered full benefits commencing immediately upon return, reinstating my seniority (agreed to by the union as I would be the only one with no line of progression), more flexibility in hours, less travel and reinstated holidays. Even though the pay is a little less, I agreed to return as I prefer working…
Month: March 2022
I have a quirky job that I love. I built a website , sell trading cards, and stream on twitch full time. I’ve been doing this for a year and provide enough for my family to the point my wife can quit and we could pay off our house. The most important thing is I love it, I’m independent, and it’s something that makes my customers and viewers happy. Family members of mine know all this as fact and still scrutinize it as me being lazy and just “not wanting to work” I don’t have the nerve and I’m not going to pretend I do but I REALLY want to say: “I’m sorry but what exactly makes you so proud of yourself to be a replaceable, underpaid, under-appreciated pawn in some rich man/woman’s life?” “Like why is that such a respectable, honorable way to live! Are you that brainwashed that…
Hey everyone! So I’m in my 30s and have been back in school since last summer to finally move forward with a career instead of bouncing around shitty jobs. Upon being hired at my current job as an auxiliary worker, they fully knew I was in school. My old manager, who hired me, sat me down to talk availability and I told him I need one day off at the very least to do school work and catch up on general life. He was cool about it and also had been very accommodating to any sudden schedule changes that had come up due to school. Now we have a new manager. My first issue with him was when he was scheduling me more than before. So I emailed him and was essentially like “hey just so you know, this availability was discussed beforehand, so I do need at least one…
2-3 hour wait time on an ambulance because there is an “EMT shortage” in my area. Wasn't surprised to find out that the average pay for EMT's here is $15-18/hour. I don't know where I'm going with this… but figured my frustration would be validated here on antiwork.
So I went into work on my day off to pick something up. I work at ~insert red-themed big box store name~ and I saw my boss had a list of new ‘rules’ we had to sign and agree to. Most of them make sense: no phones or AirPods on the clock, no requesting time off on the clock, no standing in front of the time clock waiting for a specific time to clock out. But what gets me is: use your breaks or before your shift to go to the bathroom, no bathroom breaks on the clock. I’m diabetic, AND have IBS. I have to use the bathroom a lot. I don’t let it be a problem, I wait until it isn’t busy or we have a moment or someone can cover me and I don’t go for a long time, etc. How do I say ‘no I won’t…
Forced Resignation
This is a weird vent/rant that I want opinions on. I work as an engineer in Colorado. On 2/4/22, I gave my notice that I would resign on 3/11/22. I’m pretty junior, but my position relies on a lot of built knowledge so I wanted to give my coworkers enough time to learn my job and not be buried when I left. I told management, I was wished well, we agreed on the date and moved on. I trained my successor, and they’re now fully capable. Our plan was for this to happen and for me to become a knowledge bank for the final weeks. Today, at noon, my direct supervisor calls me and says my resignation date has been moved forward to today. I ask if he’s firing me. He says “no, this is not a lay off.” I responded “well, I’m not resigning so, by definition, you’re laying…
