So, I work as a substitute teacher in a county which has decided to hire a firm to handle their substitute teachers. This means I don’t even get the meager protections of a teachers union that I would if I worked for the county directly, I don’t get many benefits or bonuses, and I make barely above minimum wage. Thus, I work two jobs to try and make ends meet. This company is insufferable, however. For one, there’s little to no training. I had a day of training before I was hired on last year and I don’t receive any kind of instruction on how the company expects me to operate. What happens if a fight breaks out? How do I report suspected abuse? How do I handle mentally handicapped children? Fuck if I know! They just said “write a referral if a kid is acting up, then, tell them…
I am a Hawaiian who works in Taiwan for reference. Any contractual job here is legally binding, so should company A decide to let go party B for any reason makes party B a recipient of severance pay. Most foreigners, here, do not know that they could be compensated for the remainder of the contract. It does not matter the reason of termination because every VISA revoked is an automatic compensation. Also, most foreigners, do not even know that the process of going to labor affairs being very simple in getting compensated. Many companies will try to just pay the final pay for the month. They even try to charge people for early termination because it cost the company lots of money. Employees get screwed because the contract stated that early terminations must be compensated, but it is illegal. Why do companies want to treat us like crap, and then…
Does this make any sense?
Good Morning Everyone, I've been following antiwork for the last year and I swear my job on the daily belongs here. After some things today I really needed a place to vent about this place and I
Remembering that time when my manager called me on my day off and left me a voicemail that I need to urgently call him back. I emailed him telling him I wasn’t available and would discuss on my next day back at work because he was shady AF and I wanted all communication from him to be done in writing. Well…he took me to HR because I needed to learn that being professional means responding in the same medium that he tried to communicate with me. I left that toxic job and now I have a total unicorn job. They are out there!
My pay is stagnant. How/should I ask for a raise? I tried posting this in r/jobs and in r/personal finance and it got taken down in both subs. Someone mentioned I should try posting it here, so here we go: I am a customer service manager at a car dealership. My duties are varied and plentiful. I have a team working under me. I also have not received a raise in 4 years. I am salaried at $49,500, and grossed about 56k in 2021 when vacation pay and bonuses were added in. Over the past few years, I have also been handed an entire second department to manage for no compensation, and I single-handedly plan and arrange all work social activities and events. This is in addition to my ‘regular’ job and duties. For said work activities, I am expected to front the expenses myself and then get reimbursed up…
UK notice periods and double standards
The whole thing with P&O Ferries has angered me, and not just because of the obvious shittiness of the overall situation. I have a shit job. A shitty minimum wage job. And you know how long my notice period is? 4 weeks. Yet these fucks were able to fire people instantly. Why is this not something that can be reciprocated? If I find myself in a horrible environment with too much work for not enough pay, why should I have to keep on working there for several weeks? Story for those who are interested https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/mar/25/how-p-and-o-ferries-broke-law
Been working as a Data scientist, web dev, cloud architect, and Kubernetes admin for this company 2.5 years and have only gotten a 4% raise in that time. Today I'm asking for a 10% raise so wish me luck, my backup plan is finding a new job.
I didn’t apply for the job, idiot!
A manager at Cisco contacted me and said they were looking for a program manager. I explained that I know their products well, but I’m lacking in program management skills. He explained that they thought it would be better to get someone with product knowledge and teach them program manager skills. So I went ahead and interviewed. Finally, the manager gets back to me the following week and tells me that I don’t have enough program management skills. Yes. That’s why I didn’t apply for the job!
