So. I have been gradually becoming more and more radicalized by constantly reading the horror stories posted in this sub. I appreciate all of you. I work in unarmed security in NYC. My company is owned by mostly retired NYPD folk. They make a big stink about being proud to have a unionized company and whatnot. But they have a lot of friends that are lawyers, and have put down quite a few lawsuits that previous employees have tried to bring against them. My problem is that in NYC, minimum wage is $15/hour. I understand that in many parts of the country, that sounds like a lot, but NYC is one of the two most expensive cities to live in in the whole country. This is below poverty wages. Striking for the first time monday.
Here it is. After some back and forth the time to go on strike has come. The movement is wide, even the managers are striking with us. I'm excited.
Equal pay of a living wage and benefits a fair work life balance, and no more dragging Fridays or hate for Mondays because you blink and your weekend is gone. Currently if we live to an age of 80 – 83 from the age of 22 when we start careers when life is calculated by numbers we are left with 10 years of waking life left. If you think about it like how fast you got into high school, how fast your summers went which equal around 3 years of waking life combined (probably actually less including sleep) It makes life to me almost not worth living when you live to work not work to live. Raised on going to school 9 till 2 or 3, 5 days a week is a frigging joke compared to an 8 – 5 schedule. Pay is getting lower work places are getting more…
