In 1973, could you really survive with just a highschool degree?

I’m writing an article for my college newspaper, and I seen an article saying 4.03$ an hour back then is basically 23$ an hour now. Is this real? Can you all help me understand how easy it was to survive on a highschool diploma back then? Anyone else have any facts and statistics?

Being a billionaire should be illegal

Once your net worth passes $999,999,999.99, that excess should be immediately taken by the IRS. I think we can all agree that a billion dollars is more than enough money for a person to have. For a person to accumulate that much wealth, they must indulge fully into the exploitative nature of capitalism and sustain that indulgence to feed their ceaseless hunger for money. Their hunger has a detrimental effect on society as their exploitative practices become precedent. After all, if the “Captains of Industry” are able to sink that low, anyone can. We must set a limit to their greed. Will they lose the motivation to continue producing? Yes, but we no longer need them to do so. Will they attempt to more of their wealth? Of course, but they can't hide all of it, especially as tax havens come under greater international scrutiny. Might some simply leave the…

MBA managers are driving down wages

A new working paper by Daron Acemoglu, Alex He and Daniel le Maire, finds those with MBAs increase returns on assets in the five years after their appointment. But that is not because they boost sales, ratchet up investments or raise productivity. Rather, the higher returns are the result of suppressing workers’ wages. MBAs managers seem to see workers as “costs to be reduced” rather than an investment in human capital. NOTE: Most of the text is not mine, is from The Economist, I am only copying the main points and linking the original paper and article.

I think I’m radicalizing my therapist.

So Ive been seeing him a year or so now, I keep opening his eyes to things like Homan Square and just the entire system and how it works. He used to pull me back from the edge of rage, but recently I'm seeing him get more and more pissed about the same things. Being a mental health service provider all I have to do is bring up the insurance companies and its rant city.

A search for the perfect co-op community. alternateTitle: Artist, maker, dreamer, adventurer looking for friends.

Hi, this is my first reddit post ever. I don't totally understand how to use reddit. I've used the reddit app for a few years now, just scrolling through the main reddit page thing when I'm bored. I finally created an account a few weeks ago because I felt like somehow reddit is my best chance of feeling less lost and alone. I imagine that if I explain my dream and post it where it has the potential for thousands of people to read it, I’ll be able to connect with at least a few people with similar interests and dreams. I want to create big things that I can’t do alone. I suck at organizing my thoughts. My brain constantly jumps back and forth between a whole bunch of ideas. I’ve been trying to collect my thoughts on the notepad app on my cell phone for like six months…

Owner jeopardizes safety.

So I started working as a CDL driver for a local dump truck company. With the current high price of fuel, brakes, tires, etc… the owner of the company has decided to ignore our calls to replace tires, brakes, windshields and other items that the other drivers and I feel are making the trucks unsafe. The funny part is that the owner also has a car dealer license, he has been buying new cars and selling at auction as used to make a profit. So apparently there is no money to replace brakes or tires on a commercial vehicle, but there is money to flip cars.
