From 2007-2012, I was a night shift package handler at FedEx. When I was hired, my contract had a “guaranteed minimum” number of hours. 17.5 per week. If I clocked out early, I would still be paid for those hours with the caveat that you couldn't say no to your manager if they asked you to do some task and you were under your minimums. They did this to keep the ratio of packages-per-hour low, and I'm sure other less-than-altruistic corporate or tax benefits. Then 2008 happened, and the company looked at how much they were paying people to not be there and they said that if you clocked out before you got 17.5, you were voluntarily refusing work, which was a condition of getting your minimums. Friday at 930pm, I'd go to my boss and tell him I have X minutes left for my minimums, and he'd hand me…
Month: April 2022
Earlier in March, I was wrapping a pile of pallets to ship out, when an employee without a forklift license, came too close behind me with the lift (I assume to put the pile I had to wrap closer to me) and tipped a pile of 15 high pallets onto my back as I was bent over. I'm waiting for an answer from CNESST to either approve or deny my claim for pay indemnity. I also have an MRI this coming tuesday as my back seems to be getting worse despite cnesst covered physio appointments. The management is shit and the amount of illegal things I've witnessed and know about are far too high. I worked my ass off for this company for 3 years, and also just heard from a coworker that now of all times, they decide to give all their employees bonuses due to how well the…
prolly gonna find another place
I started working recently at a bakery that's apart of a bigger store, (not gonna say names just Incase of legality shit idk). I told them I'm still doing school and I have a lot to do. They asked if I can do weekend and I said thats fine. First schedule they set me up with was a 6 day work week. I instantly talked it down to four. This was the first problem. First day goes fine just basic training shtuff. Second day I'm being trained by another coworker, this guy's really cool and it's a genuine good time to talk and work with this guy. But he keeps talking about how he feels used at this company, I thought maybe he was just “talking” but after today I 100% understand. Today was my third day and they made me run the whole bakery from 4-10 by myself. I…
They wont promote your or pay you more so you try to look for opportunities internally before venturing out to only discover them blocking you. If you are such a bad employee surely they would want to let someone else deal with you, right?
I’ve been working for this company for a few months now and it’s such a toxic environment. They get so many applicants a year, but I would say this company had the worst leadership imaginable. They act like they are about work/life balance, but they aren’t. They boast about their benefits, but there’s an expectation that you should work 80+ hours a week. I’ve been mistreated by management so much to where I want to quit. They hide behind values of diversity and support just to reel you in, but it’s just so they can brag about the number of applicants they turned down and mistreat the employees they have.
Today I spent 5 hours of my day on a fucking spreadsheet for a client with their spends on their plan with our IT company vs a new plan were proposing for them. I asked if my boss could review it, and she took out most of the information. Took out all of my work, and even admitted that she learned best from her spreadsheets “being ripped to shreds”. I hate when bosses tell you everything you did wrong, but don’t tell you what you did right. It left me feeling resentful of her, like I don’t want to do shit for her anymore. Are there any nice bosses out there? I certainly haven’t had any. Rant over.
Is It Just Me?
Does anybody else feel like they are going through life with no real purpose. Going to work everyday, just barely making it. The whole system seems to be rigged. Renting has become almost impossible for most people, unless you have 3 roommates. House prices are through the roof. Any kind of medical or dental is through the roof, you pay for insurance that does nothing. Among many other things im leaving out, what are we doing as a society? We are all human, sure life isn't fair but we make it even more unfair with all this greed. I will never be convinced that this is normal. You should have to suffer day to day just making it through life, just to end up dying after working 60 years. That seems bizarre. Have you ever just wanted the world to end in some way, giant metor , nuclear war. Just…
Companies always frame giving notice as not leaving your coworkers in trouble. But it’s the company‘s fault if you are pushed out or mistreated, and you don’t give notice. It’s their policies that cause people to be in a tough spot. They definitely take your coworkers hostage to get you to be more professional than they are.
