Bad Google review lead to my coworker getting in trouble

Okay I don't know how to feel about what just happened but want to share it with you because wtf A little background info, I work for an establishment that is family owned. I haven't been here more that 3 months and noticed hostile situations, people quitting on the spot, unfair pay, religious cliques, gossip, and subtle racism. Someone left a bad review on Google for a service they had and used the name of my coworker who helped them in the post. The bad review accused my coworker of not doing their job correctly amongst other things that were out of her control. Right now the owner of the establishment is on the phone with my coworker going sentence by sentence of the review asking for details… Now I'm afraid that someone leaving a bad review will cost me my job! So people of Reddit, can an employer do…

What if…

You all lie/refuse to give your smartphone number to companies, like you just have this landline/email/neighbors/bird you can be reached so they don't be assholes in WhatsApp/messenger etc. When it's your day off/vacation you can just ignore stuff from those channels and live your life as it were in the 90's?

Sketchy Restaurant Doing Illegal Practices

I need advice on something because I know a non chain restaurant I worked at did illegal stuff and would like to see them get the karma that's coming to them. For reference, this restaurant is in Michigan and I no longer work there but my best friend does. She told me that the employee that did payroll altered the cash tips on the end of day envelopes we filled out. Apparently it didn't matter what cash tip we would right down or if we left it blank, they would alter the number so then it appears we made more than we did. If you're a server and didn't make at least minimum wage, they are responsible for covering the difference, since servers in Michigan make I believe $2.50/hour when I had that job. That is meant to cover your taxes and you rely on tips for your proper income.…

I might not get paid

I work for a small business. I only started working here last year. When they were first set to open, the pandemic completely shut them down before they had a chance to even start. As such, the business made no money, and when payments to the landlords, construction people, etc. started again, they no money to pay them back. They finally opened late last year, so they haven't been open long. Customers of my boss's previous business have not realized that we are back. After I started working here, I learned about how much they owe and that we weren't making enough money. We've been making it for a while, but I just found out the other day that there isn't enough to cover everyone's pay from this period. We've all been doing everything we can to bring back business, but nothing is working. We just aren't making enough money.…

Required penny raises

I think this belongs here let me know if not. My boyfriend works for a big tractor trailer dealership/shop. He was just informed yesterday that the company will no longer allow managers to give raises based on merit. As of last week the company is only requiring penny raises each year for their employees. Raises can only be earn by completing their in house training which takes hours in front a computer. These guys do back breaking work that keep our food and supplies moving all over the country and their hard work will no longer be recognized by nothing more than some paperwork and a penny.

Confused

Peer does not show up to work or take work remotely for 2 months, both manager and director start calling me to figure out where my peer is and I cover for him explaining maybe he's sick, or on PTO. They are not pleased and ask me to cover. Np Week later after I rollout all equipment he connects a few cables and connects a remote tech to a system and is hailed as a genius, perfect employee, and thanked by everyone from leadership and other groups. I am so confused as honestly he does very little, I am breaking my ass and I never get that type of curtosy. Love the employer and team but ffs why not thank the people doing 2x as much or that are avail when you need them and don't disappear for 2 fucking months. It's like being shit on.
