So my boss is selling the business. It's a small business in Australia and I was thinking that the other employee and I could use this opportunity when we renegotiate to get a better deal. Do you guys have any tips?

Abbie Hoffman was antiwork before it was cool

Interviewer: So you thought of your appearance down on Wall Street as a kind of confrontation? Abbie Hoffman: Sure. Your very dress, your being was a confrontation. A deliberate confrontation. And an affirmation of a spirit, of an art, of a more humane kind of existence. Cooperation versus competition. We didn't have to spell out our ideology because it was pretty clear if you followed our acts, and if you tried to make all the intellectual connections, you'd find plenty of theory. We had utopian visions, like “abolish money” was big. And “abolish work.” We were anti-work, anti-money. So the throwing out of money at Wall Street would fit into that. You could say that we were anti-capitalists, which we were, but we didn't have an “ism.' We had the idea of “free.' We kept putting across the idea that it all should be free, since our society's so rich. We had…

Too many jobs in my area don’t even pay a mere $15/hr

Scrolling thru indeed.com looking for something better. The first screen has 50 listings. Please note, I’m using the starting of salary range as let’s be honest, that’s what they’d offer. So if they say $12-$17, it’s listed as Under $15. The pay breaks down as follows: No pay info listed: 9 Under $15: 20 Exactly $15: 8 Over $15: 9 Weekly wage: 1 $300-375/week. That works out to fucking barely over minimum wage at 40 hours Annual salary: 3, one starting $25k, 30k, and 35k. All commission based jobs.

Interview question advice?

I am looking for a new job that is hopefully remote. I have gotten a few calls to do phone/zoom job interviews. But I am not so sure how to respond to typical job interview questions except with typical /r/antiwork responses. How do you answer generic questions like: “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” or “What are your gratest strengths/weakness?” How would you respond?

No “Great Resignation” for Older Workers—Mass Job Loss Drove the Retirement Surge

https://www.economicpolicyresearch.org/jobs-report/no-great-resignation-for-older-workers-mass-job-loss-drove-the-retirement-surge From the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis, the economic policy research arm of the department of economics at The New School for Social Research. While the above-trend retirement rate has fueled the narrative of a “great resignation” among older workers, our research indicates that most of these retirements occurred after periods of unemployment rather than directly from employment. Retirement after passage through unemployment is a departure from the common pre-pandemic retirement scenario and may be an indicator that many of these excess retirements were involuntary. Low levels of wage growth suggest that the decision to remain retired may not reflect the preferences of many retirees, but rather the lack of demand for their skills and experience. Indeed, given the low rates of retirement readiness among older workers, one might expect that retirees may “un-retire”. However, many may face countervailing forces in a labor market that has proven inhospitable to older workers—particularly as…

No, that is certainly not a bad problem to have!

So I've been thinking about this thing my old boss did a few years ago and I thought y'all would be… entertained by it. We were closing down for the night. It was late and I just wanted to go home. All the customers have left and he decided to bring his JBL speaker around while he was inspecting all of our areas and blasting the most horrible, cheesy techno music from it. I was a cashier, so we unlocked my drawer and headed into the cash office. The office is small, and his music is deafening but he doesn't turn it down. He dumps all the bills into this machine that counts it all and makes sure the amount's all good. He has to reload the machine because there is a 2-dollar bill. So he takes out his wallet hoping to just switch it with two ones. But oh…
