no one wants to spend 20 mins on your stupid application, go through multiple interviews, only to find out they’re making 30k a year in the bay area
Month: April 2022
Edit: minor context and spelling I've been with this company since their start up. I took on a management role when I didn't really want to to protect myself from their hiring shortcomings. I have worked weeks at a time, sometimes being called in at the absolute last second, because they wanted to push other people out of the schedule, or had to fire employees for behavior (that was in retaliation to my boss' actions) until I was their only worker for at least a month. The only times I've missed work were due to severe weather that shut down transit, when I caught covid, and today, when I had a stomach bug. I let them know 4+ hours before my shift started that I had been throwing up for at least 2 hours, and it did not look like it would improve any time soon. I also let them…
Reminder: They don’t care about you.
I like my job. It pays well, has decent benefits, my coworkers are nice, and they're paying for my continued education. Today I was originally scheduled to drive down to help troubleshoot something with a high end client. This morning I was told that another coworker would be going in my place. No biggie. Was looking forward to the long quiet drive, but I've got things I could do in my office. Boss tells me later they swapped me out because the client would have been offended by my mask. (I'm the most Covid conscious person in the office. I've got a baby at home too young for the vaccine and my immunocompromised father watches her.) I sincerely thanked him for taking my family's safety into consideration. He immediately shot back that he was keeping the client from feeling uncomfortable. Not going to lie, that stung a little bit. Even…
I've worked in some kitchens that are really good about this and actually follow through but the one I'm at right now is absolutely scummy about this. I got sent home early the other day because we were slow and one of the servers tracked me down on the way out the door to make me pay for a meal I ate several hours prior because I technically did not work a certain required number of hours in a given day to be allowed to eat. This is absolute bullshit on multiple levels. Furthermore, if you are a line cook and your employer refuses to allow you a shift meal, I would encourage you to make yourself food without their knowledge and eat it on your own terms. You deserve moral permission to take food from your employer if they will not provide it to you. I have known plenty…
Hey Reddit. Not sure if this the right spot for this post. But it just feels right. So for years I've been in a deep depression because of my student loans. I spent $141k for Art degree and have nothing to show for. So for years I buried my head in the sand and ignore the issue for years. Until in 2019, when I got an notice from my HR department that my that my wages were gonna be garnished because of my student loans. So now I was forced to deal with the issue. Collections were taking nearly $500 out of my check every paycheck. With the money being taken out, I had another reason to be depressed and now I have to worry about making rent. For 7 months my paycheck was garnished. Then the pandemic hit. With 2 years of not having to pay back my student…
