Had a job interview at what seemed to be a nice company, however one of the interviewers didn’t introduce themselves and both did not have their cameras on. It felt like I was just talking to a screen. That was very uncomfortable so I just left within 2 minutes and said sorry. I’ve been doing well in all my other virtual interviews and have made it to the next steps with several other companies. I did not know that the other party having their camera on made such a huge difference. Was my reaction warranted or am I just being infirm? Edit: I had my camera on and I was dressed up.

Hey I was working in a big pharmacy in my town. It's always crowded and a famous shop to buy medicines. I was passionate about block chain development, but ended up working in this pharmacy because of substance abuse problem. Nowadays I don't have any motivation to improve my life. So I thought atleast I could be useful to this pharmacy. I've quite a lot of experience managing computer networks, medicines, and pharmaceutical software stuffs. Usually in my shop there are around 20 employees working. But when the pandemic hits, mostly every employee stayed at home. But I don't have anything important to do in my life. So I worked my ass like fire, literally multitasking. In those times I worked 15 hours straight. I did every works (Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Cleaning, Etc.) as much I could. My employer seems very satisfied by my work. Now after pandemic faded away,…
Restatement: We need to stay alive as a species. In order to do that we need to stop deliberately hurting each other. In order to do that we actually need to stop other people from hurting each other when we see it. But our systems are set up to actively prevent us from doing that. And we celebrate it as survival of the fittest. It’s unnecessary. Unhelpful. And we have the ability to do better. If we don’t, we all die. Beginning Explanation (every argument is only the beginning of the conversation, the key is listening): Using power against your own species is common. We see it often in nature. Lions, tigers, and bears. Oh my. What many of us forget is that this becomes less common in dominant predators as they increase in our definition of consciousness and intelligence (“awakeness”, as used in this post). And usually only occurs…
In my line of work I have to spend a fair amount of time away from the office working on projects outside. For overnight projects, where we are gone for three or four days at a time, lodgings and fuel are paid for by the company and we are allotted a certain dollar amount per meal per day. Last week my coworker and I had wrapped up for the day and went into town for dinner. Coworker ordered one $2 taco and I ordered a $12 entree. The max is $13 or so. I asked Coworker, why not max out the per diem? Coworker's response: “Well, I don't know, I'm just trying to be nice. They are paying for it after all…” Later on I thought, who on earth would project this “nice employee” thing by deliberately making yourself go hungry for the night (and we were in a very…
I work at a dealership, the past few days I’m just about to go for lunch, only for the tower op to give me a 2 hour tire mount and balance and an oil change, I end up not getting lunch until 1:30-2:00. I start at 8. I don’t know if there’s any laws regarding this but I only get 1 half and hour lunch for the whole 8 1/2 work day. No breaks. Shits fucked.
I sat there, having skipped a meal and fully dressed up in front of my desk, waiting for an hour. I'd already had a gut feeling that morning that this interview was not going to happen, and I was right – not only did she never show up, but HOURS later, she responded to my last message simply asking if Monday next week will work for me. That was it. No apology. No mention, even, about her being completely absent. Directly above her unbelievable reply, I had messaged her twice: 1) asking where she was, 30 minutes into waiting, 2) saying that I'll be leaving now, an hour into waiting, as she was nowhere to be seen. And they aren't even the only red flags. The days leading up to the interview, she: Changed the dates on me twice Spelt my name wrong Completely ignored all my questions, instead giving…
Context: My parents are both retired. They are tech savvy (my dad was an electrical engineer) but have been out of the job application world for a long while. I'm in the process of tweaking my resume for my dream job. Good pay, lots of working outside, beautiful area. I'm going through the job description, pulling out key words, and slapping those bad boys into my resume. I'm talking over the process with my mom as I'm doing it. I copied a key phrase over and she said, “You can't do that!” “Why not?” “That's plagiarism.” “No it's not.” “You can't just copy their words.” “They have computers check to see if your resume and cover letter have these key words in there before even looking at your application. If you don't have them, your application is automatically junked.” (ATS if you want to dive into a rabbit hole) “Without…
There’s air outside, let’s breathe it
Just applied to work for AT&T
Their job posting's salary was between $35,000-50,000/yr. Freaking sweet right? I get on the phone with the guy and he asks me how much I'm looking to make. I tell him I'd be comfortable with $40,000 to meet all my basic needs. He says the most he can offer is $9/hr. Fucking lol. I'd rather work at Burger King, they at least pay you $10.
You know, there's nothing wrong with having a strong work ethic, enjoying work, or going the extra mile. It's the exploitation of peoples' work ethics which is the problem, not the person who has the strong work ethic in the first place. Don't be mad at people who are motivated, be mad at the people who exploit that.
