I am of the view that capitalism doesn't in and of itself create prosperity. Most of the prosperity that exists is a product of technology and mass production; which could exist with or without capitalism. Things like steam engines, railways, internal combustion engines, roads, bridges, ports, airports, modern medicine, steel, elevators, modern medicine, telecommunications, electricity, mass production and modern farming and so forth could all exist without capitalism. Modern farming which greatly enhanced food production was a product of the green revolution, which itself was lead by government efforts. Many advances in medicine are produced by government agencies and given away for free to private companies to patent. Nuclear power wouldn't exist if not for the Manhattan project. The TGV was itself the product of government Research and Development plus large government investment in infrastructure. So it seems to me that innovation is a product of trying to solve problems…

Our “great” time and a half deal
A few years ago, I worked a crappy customer service job for a large jeans manufacturer that was based in Merriam, KS (but has since moved). We were under staffed, underpaid, and corporate didn’t give a crap about us. On the bright side, we’d recently gotten rid of our toxic supervisor and my co-worker “Nicole” was our new boss. She was fighting hard to make positive changes for us, but her manager, “Jackie” was a micromanager who made things difficult. The Company was closed on Thanksgiving and the Friday after Thanksgiving and we received holiday pay for those days. However, (understandably), Corporate decided they wanted our department to be staffed on Black Friday. Jackie called a meeting to give us details on a special incentive. Jackie told us they couldn’t force us to work that day since it was a company holiday, but if we signed up and worked, we’d…
Like the company made almost 2 billion last quarter..homebuilding businesses are killing it. I would have been happy with 6 percent even though it’s not inflation..but 2 percent?? I think it’s time to go.
Seeking advice on a promotion concern
Hi, I work at a small nonprofit with a big budget and I was recently offered a promotion, but I was told I couldn't start working in that role until the org hires my replacement for my current position. It has been 2 months and they aren't any closer to hiring someone. How absolutely screwed am I getting? What should I do to advocate for receiving my higher pay now? I'm really struggling and it's going to get even worse when my partner starts summer vacation and we both have to pay student loans again. Thank you in advance.
How pathetic
The company has switched to a new program that significantly decreases productivity and we will still held to meet their previous expectations. How would you go about telling them to kindly eat a bag of dicks and force some change in a corporate environment? Before you ask, no not union and the majority of us are work from home so flyers or physical things will be mostly ineffective.
Why is it so hard to find a job??
no experience and it’s so fking hard around here. I’ve tried applying to everything (except fast food). People aren’t hiring me because I’m either not 18 or I have no experience. It’s a repeating cycle. I’m so tried, this might be dumb on my end but I might just wait until I’m 18. Not sure if this is the right sub but fuck, why are these people so picky?
