supervisor upset I wouldn’t go open door for him

I 33m got a call this morning from my supervisor, his access card rejected him from entering the building. Asked me to come let him in. There is a card reset station 25-50 feet away, all he has to do is tap. I inform him of this he says ok displeased and immediately makes efforts to talk poorly to others about me on his way in. Guy is almost 70 years old. Feel free to give advice but I'm just going to ignore him.

Rant of the day.

Today I feel the need to rant. I'm not going to name the charity in question, however as my wife is currently in tears I need to rant somewhere. For the past 7 years my wife has been giving up her time for free to work with a charity as a fully qualified counsellor, now we don't earn a vast amount of money between us and it's certainly been getting far tighter over the past year with the prices of everything going through the roof. People that use this charity for their needs get free counselling from this charity with almost unlimited sessions, which is fantastic for them, however as you can imagine it can be difficult to fit around other people, they expect you to be able to drop what you are doing to accommodate clients, which can be outside working hours (my wife has been working up to…

How to avoid getting exploited?

I am worried about being exploited my first job in years because when I went for the interview, the manager mentioned wanting people to do 45 hour weeks and nightshifts. I said 8am-10pm window, and twice he pushed 6am-00 and then put that as every day. He did say the maximum hours would be 10 hours but what I’m worried about is the swapping from like 6-2 one day and then 3pm-12am. Would they be able to do that to me? I want to ensure I’ll get the £10 an hour and that they won’t make me do too many hours or weird hours? I’m worried about burning out.

Got fired on my day off last week

So a little background first. I've been working for this foundation repair company on and off for the last 3 years. They are really Petty people but I've kept the job because I have transportation problems and most of their work is right by my house. Anyway last week I saw that they were advertising on Facebook marketplace and decided to take the chance and message the boss's wife who posted the ad. She told me they still needed people and since I don't have anything else going on at the moment I decided to try to get my old job back. After I messaged them over the weekend I received a message back. She told me that they would go ahead and hire me again for the season and gave me the address for the job site. I showed up for work on Monday and everything was cool the…

Ambiguous Responsibilities on Job Description (UK)

Just had a job description sent through on an email, for the place I already work for, and noticed the job title had changed from ‘sales consultant’ as stated on my contract, to ‘team member’. I believe all the responsibilities of the roles are similar, if not the same. However, at the bottom it says “this is not an exhaustive list and at times, you may be asked to take on additional responsibilities” My question would be what repercussions would there be if I were to refuse to do one of these ‘additional responsibilities’ that are not clearly outlined in the job description?

Recruiting practices can really wear you down…

Sorry to rant. I'm in the process of looking for a new position. I just wanted to stress how sick I am of these Indeed skills tests. I totally get them, and why they would have them, but it does make the applying process so long and frustrating. Especially when the tests sometimes don't have anything to do with the kind of work you will be doing. And don't get me started on the “automated phone interview.” Another thing I can't stand? Self guided video interviews. Who thought of these, who thought they would be a good idea? How hard is it for you to call me on the phone and talk to me for ten minutes? Someone answering a question on video can be so different than in person, it cuts out the ability to have a conversation as the first impression – which in turn could determine if…

Being disciplined for telling my manager I am taking disability leave while she was away

Looking for some general advice/ words of wisdom from other office drones who hate their jobs and everyone they work with. The week before last my manager was off all week- she is the manager who oversees my day to day tasks etc. On the Thursday I had a meeting with the highest level of HR people for my grad scheme, about some harassment I had in my last department. I’ve been pushing to get disability leave for ages, and they finally gave me the go ahead so I could get my treatment together and take a week to rest. I have two managers, the day-to-day one, and another one who oversees my performance on the grad scheme. Any HR, sick leave etc has to go through him, and then I tell my day to day manager. I sent him a message requesting the disability leave that HR had recommended,…

Anonymous employee survey responses accidentally sent to whole company. I’m a bit uncomfortable with how managers responded.

A manager accidentally sent employee survey responses to entire company. Responses are anonymous but people can fairly easily guess who wrote some of the comments. A week has passed and the employees haven't heard any more about it – no apology, no mention of the slip up at all. I personally don't mind, mistakes happen and anyway all my feedback consisted of things I have mentioned publicly. But there are people who trusted that this was anonymous and in confidence, don't they deserve an apology at the very least? The most common feedback was about compensation. (For context, their current employees' salaries and their offers for potential employers don't match market rates atm). Another manager said the following at a meeting with company team leads (very summarised version of their monologue): “People mention salary but it's not about salary. They just want to be recognised for their hard work. After…
