They got me… I let it be known I was looking for opportunities inside our org as I feel (and they know) I've outgrown my position. A week later… “we want to show our appreciation and do something for you, cash bonus for 1 year retention. Just sign here.” Now, I'd like to think I have a good working relationship with my executives. So, I was like ” aww… look what they did for me! Sure… hand me the pen. ” I mistakenly took it as a personal compliment and valuation from them. A week later…” Motha Fucker…. they got me!” After that I was even more miserable because I felt trapped. I didn't spend the money, and if the right opportunity comes up I can always pay it back if I leave before November. Just don't know the tax implications as I was taxed last year on it. If…
Month: April 2022
I've been working at a corporate office of a retail company for almost 2 years. I started as an Associate Manager in my area. After a year and a half, I was promoted to Manager. I was weary because other people promoted into this position all left not long after being promoted. I shared my concerns with management who promised I would have help, training, and an Associate Manager to help me so I would succeed (Note the Associate Manager would be split between me and another Manager). I reported to a Director who was supposed to give me training, but that never happened because she didn't have time and I tried to figure things out as I went. 5 months later, this past Friday, I had my yearly review. I knew I had struggled a bit after I did not really have an Associate much since it turns out…
Military to Civilian Sector
How has the change been from military work/leadership to civilian work/leadership since you left? I have been in the military for seven years now. Worked on submarines for almost five of those years. Pulling 70, 80, 90 hour work weeks. And that was when we were in port and not on deployment. At my rank getting paid around 2500 a month for the last three years. The Navy messed up my pay for housing last year and they owe me around 30k that I am trying to get paid back. I specialize in information technology, servers, networks, radars, the like. I am burnt out and done. My years spent in this institution have consistently been spent being exploited and being made to work at a much higher level, effectively taking on the job of someone two to three ranks above me for multiple years. I was denied the ability to…
I will be 56yo this year and after thirty years of working hard as an RN, I am existentially tired. I am so very tired of toxic coworkers, s$%tty physicians, stress, early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays…honestly, I'm just so over the full-time grind altogether. Don't get me wrong, I do have some money in savings and retirement, but after having given up the majority of my most productive years, what I do have is totally disproportionate with the life energy that I have traded to just keep a roof over my head and food on the table. The final straw for me was when I recently ended up with an almost $5,000 tax bill even though I claim zero deductions?? WTF? What…the IRS taking 1/3rd of my gross income in taxes throughout the year isn't enough? I wouldn't be so upset if this was helping to fund schools, infrastructure,…
Company chargeout rates
I've just been sent an email circulated through our company with each job roles chargeout rate to clients. I am paid $30/hr, and get charged out at $120/hr. What the fuck??? Is it normal to get charged out at 4x your wage??? methinks: could I expect to charge out the same rate as someone self-employed…?
I (f17) started my first real job working as a waitress at a sushi restaurant back in december of 2021. I took this job because i was desperate and they hired me on the spot, but honestly ever since i started it has been absolute hell. The only thing keeping me there are my amazing co-workers and regulars along with the money. When i originally came in looking for a job position i asked if they were hiring hostesses and i was told yes and that i could begin working the following Friday. When i showed up for my first shift i found out that there wasn't a hostess position and that they had actually hired me to be a server. I figured i would go ahead and try it since i was already there and within my first 20 minutes i was already fed to the wolves and serving…
Corrective Action for Citing Labor Law
Backstory – So I work in California. I normally have weekends off, and my company has a very liberal time off policy. Well, I ended up pulling my back at the gym and was out for a few days (which counted as one call out because of my doctor’s note), then a week later I had to take care of family (covered under FMLA), but got sick from them. So I called out again for both days. The way I see it, I’m not a slave and my benefits are there to use. My boss switches my days, but tells me its because of scheduling, effectively taking my weekends from me (which could have been used to recover from being sick), then tells me that he’ll give me an alternate day off the next week so that my weekends can continue as planned. This would be fine, EXCEPT, nobody tells…
Notice or No Notice
I work at Walmart and I finally got a new job so I can get out of this hell on earth. I work in a downtown area when everyone forgets basic human decency. Even the managers. There is only one manager that treats us like human beings. So my question is should I just quit on the spot or give them a little bit of notice? Those bitches are not getting two weeks out of me either way but I feel like I should give the nice manager a heads up.
So I've worked for my current employer since April 2015. I've took approx 4 days off in that period. I've received 6 separate promotions/changes to title over that period and managed various departments and big projects for the business. Throughout the pandemic, I was fortunately one of those that were not adversely affected and in fact the demand increased exponentially. During the pandemic I was promoted again and risked my physical health for the sake of our business delivering on KPI's. 3 weeks ago, my dog died. Last week, I moved into my first mortgaged home. It just feels like so much is happening but I don't really know what to do? I've asked for a double demotion back to an operational role to relieve my workload and to allow myself time to mentally recover and hopefully over time I'll be ready to head back into a management role again,…
