I use to work at one of the uks bar/restaurants. Rhymes with leatherpoons. I requested holiday to go to physio and have a tattoo, my boss rejected my request and said “too many people have booked that day off” I asked if I could just have the day off, even half a day and he told me no. The week before the day I wanted off, I dislocated my knee mid-shift (I have eds and dislocate joints easily) that same shift I was facing disciplinary action for telling my boss he was a cucking funt. My shift manager screamed, I hopped to the staff room, put my knee back in, handed my boss my fill key and locker key and walked off. Best decision I’ve ever made.
Area I'm in, poverty line is $40,000/year. Just a note, but two people could MAYBE afford a 1bed 1bath at that pay. Well, the company I'm working for now is paying me around $42,000/year for a specialized assembly position. I found out yesterday this is about $4000/year more than they are paying the guy training me for the same role. This workforce will very soon be retiring as almost all of them are Vietnamese immigrants in their 60's. My trainer has been there 32 years! Making $18/hour? I'm honestly not even sure how most of them survive in this area on that rate. Company is multinational and multi-million dollar. And they can't figure out why no one stays beyond a year anymore.
Book Review!!!!!
Here's a good summer read I would suggest for everyone! Effective Phrases for Performance Appraisals: A Guide to Successful Evaluations Spiral-bound – April 1, 1920 by Jr. James E. Neal (Author) ISBN-13 : 978-1882423200 What I remember the most from my years of employment was the intense, overwhelming desire to kill myself. Some people dream about sex, I dreamed about be dead. I haven't had a job in close to 15 years. Rather then having a job, rather then having to pretend I give a shit about what my dumbass manager is saying, rather then having to deal with my ass-hole co-workers (here's a clue you stupid fucking dumbasses, I stopped believing in “Jesus Christ” about the same time I quite believing in Santa Clause, ya know, when I was like, 5 old!) They once asked me “how many suicidal ideations, did you have?” My…
Negotiating severance
I was just laid off and my employer offered me a very mediocre severance package. Has anyone had success negotiating a better package? How did you go about doing so?
Salary shenanigans
This was last year, I applied for a part time job at my local “home center”. They advertised the pay as 14.34/hour which I found fair. I am a disabled vet so a little extra money for a couple hours a day didn't hurt. I talked to the hiring lady (HL) and she told me the pay was 14.34 and I could work no more than 4 hours a day, 3 days a week. Sounded great. She walks out to get some paperwork. While she's out, the store manager (SM) walks in to introduce himself and after a couple minutes I am informed the job actually pays 12.54. So I told him the ad and the HL told me it was 14.34. He walked out, to strategize with the HL I guess. Shortly they both walk in and tell me they could do the 14.34 but I have to work…
