Management Is So Confused People Are Pissed Off About Schedule Change

The plant I work for currently runs 24/7. This isn't always the case, normally its five days a week, three shifts. Every other year though, when we release new products, we need to run 24/7. So what the company does, is ask workers to volunteer for a weekend shift. What that means, is you work 12 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday is double time, which means you're paid for 36 hours, despite only working 24. And that's it. Just two days a week, five days off. If there are openings during the week, you can volunteer for a shift, if you want. Now, in the past, people jumped on this. It's a great deal. Granted, you basically agree to fully sacrifice your social life by complete giving up your entire weekend. That is why you're paid well for it. For this to work, weekday shifts obviously need to…

competing for PTO with my manager

At my place of work only one employee is allowed to be out on PTO at a time. I requested 2 days off the week before Christmas that was still available on our calendar. My manager declined my request for the two days because she is interested in taking that entire week off…and according to her if I want those two days off she will only approve it if I take off that entire week. She has also declined other employees trying to request pto around other major holidays for the same reason. I don't think employees should be competing with their manager for vacation time.

Is Everyone Else Just Surviving?

I make $19.00 an hour. I live in the Midwest. I live by myself in a tiny one bedroom, I drive a new car, have a new phone and I am finding more and more that life is a struggle for me. I look around in a bar and wonder to myself “Is everyone here just living paycheck to paycheck?” and I'm pretty sure we all are. After taxes and health insurance come out I make around $14.00 an hour. We're all in a sinking ship. All of us. The servers, the guy sitting there drinking an IPA, the couple that are in love with each other, the dude that just walked in with his five bros. Yet everyone has water around their ankles, the ship is sinking, and the klaxons are going off and no one gives a fuck. In fact people are just partying it up. It's not…

How My Company Lost Millions Due To Managers Ego

I'll try to make it short… we have a dude working in my team under my supervision who is one of the few specialists in a very peculiar design software. Literally one of dozen or so in whole North America who can properly operate and use it efficiently, as I said software is very peculiar. We have other operators but they mostly suck at it and make things worse… while this dude just plows through. Not their fault, the program is just terrible to use. Somehow this guy gets it. Thing is, he is a loner, he doesn't like office or any of the team building bullshit. Dude wears black metal shirts and got in trouble with middle management many times and then work from home came as a life saver for him. I do not care about his shirts or where he works as long as he's doing it…
