I've been on this job for about 7 weeks and still in the 90 day probation period, which my manager is using against me for calling out. Lisa is the shift supervisor, John is the general manager. https://preview.redd.it/moopz6iax4r81.jpg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3984fe8fb84edec80747b917132f000442bb5e29

How to set boundaries at work?
This new policy say that we have to have our personal numbers on call 24/7 for help desk problems, which is complete bs. They just don’t want to hire more techs. FYI… we do not get paid for on call or anything outside of 8-5. This is the second weekend since the policy started and every weekend day since I’ve gotten emails and texts at like 8AM, 10:30AM, etc saying that someone needs their password reset. It is on my job description that I work 8-5PM M-F. They do not pay allowances for personal phones. Hell, we don’t even have a company phone!! How do I tell my employer to basically f— off without getting fired. I know they can’t break the contract or whatever, but they could just as easily say I’m not a “culture” fit to get rid of me easy, I’ve heard many of our employees get…
I’m posting here because I want to know if there’s anything we can do in her scenario. My fiancée worked for Target for about 3 years and took a break for about a year to work somewhere that had a higher pay. We found out that she was pregnant in January of this year and she decided that the job was not a good place to work since they work with a lot of cleaning agents and there was mold on the walls and all sorts of other nonsense (that’s another story). So she decided that going back to Target was in her best interest. It’s a job she knew well enough where she felt comfortable being able to do it. But the thing was we moved to in the meantime and her original store was too far. So she applied to a Target close to my work so we…
Most of us are making a tenth of what we add in value to a company. We should be able to sustain our young, disabled, and elderly with only a fifth of the workforce we currently have. People weren't meant to work a 40 hour week every week and then die. We're supposed to have years of growth, learning, education, and at maximum 30 years of production before taking the rest of our lives off and chilling, pursuing art and entertainment. The young exist to become the next generation, to bring in a future that functions. The middle aged and able bodied should be around to have income to sustain those who shouldn't be working, like pregnant women, new parents, disabled people, elderly, children, and more. The elderly stick around to pursue art, guide the young to betterment, and to sit back and enjoy the benefits of the world they…
Lost a whole truck at work
In retrospect, I should have just quit when my manager told me he expected me to quit after experiencing field work. It would have saved me an entire vehicle and my savings account. Instead I doubled down and traded in my fully owned car for a truck so I could better do my job and prove him wrong. My company never offered me a work vehicle, but believed the allowance gave them free reign over using my vehicle for work purposes. My poor car got scratched up within the first week from carrying stuff that shouldn’t be carried in a car and by forklifts. I know, I was young and naïve. I ended up getting into an accident and the truck was totaled. I had already worked 10 hours that day and 22 hours that week and Tuesday wasn’t over yet. I don’t receive overtime pay. I told my insurance…
Over a month and a half ago, I had to call out sick because of a crazy stiff neck I had where I couldn't even move my head let alone do my job properly. I got the time off no problem, my job had actually been very good about letting me take time off when I'm sick and overall being pretty flexible with my time. However, I requested to use my sick pay for those hours I would be missing (I don't always do this, because sometimes I'm not genuinely sick and can afford to go without pay for a day and just need a day off). My manager said sure, no problem, I'll put that in! Fast forward, she forgot, and that pay was not in my paycheck. Another manager later helped me request the sick pay through our clock-in terminal, but by the next paycheck, I found out…
How do I go about unionizing ?
I’m the shop manager for a metal shop for a roofing company in the hill country of texas. I’ve been here 6 years. We went from doing jobs to maybe 5-6 contractors 6 years ago to now over 30, and I am not given the tools or space to be able to do my job safely and efficiently. The shop is entirely to small for the amount of flat sheets/ coils we do, and the yard is full of underlayment we have no space for. Trying to drive a forklift and move stuff is a nightmare. Every time I finally figure out how to handle the workload , they figure “oh we can hire more subs and do more jobs now” and just tell me “just do what you can” which has had me perpetually working 50-60 hours a week since the pandemic happened. I’m also expected to work in…
