Month: April 2022
I work at a non profit, so I knew going into it I was going to be paid minimum wage despite giving 110%. Whatever. In a recent staff meeting they took a poll to see who would be interested in switching to four 10s, in interest in saving on gas. Everyone but two people said yes to switching. Now today, they told us actually it’s impossible, forget about it. I’m just so frustrated. Why bring it up if it’s “impossible”? How hard did you even try? I really wanted that third day off. April fools, I guess.
The public buys stocks, often in order to secure their retirements, which in theory represent partial ownership of publicly traded companies. These companies in turn, lobby legislators for favorable laws and subsidies, usually at the massive expense of the public, the working classes, and the habitable environment. As a result, corporate profits go up, so the share prices increase, and the corporate media plays happy music. The public thinks they should be happy because the listed value of their retirement accounts increased (even though the top 10% own roughly 90% of the stock market). But the increase in share price often represents a massive theft of both wealth and political power from the public, through the privatization of what could and should have belonged to the public in the first place. Everything from housing, to healthcare, to technological advances funded by the public are stolen, and then sold back to…
Almost every post I see talks about their offices, or mentions how certain jobs aren't worth it because it “only” pays 60k. Like mate that's double my salary, and most people I know have never seen a cubicle in their lives. I'm all for work reform but there needs to be a normalization of people working in minimum wage jobs that don't expect them to sit at a computer
I’ve been in the workforce almost 40 years and I have quit a job after one day and three others after less than 45 days. If you don’t feel like it’s a fit there is no shame. Find a place where you love to work. Fuck anyone that shames you for quitting. I got shamed by family and people I know for this but I’m at a place where I make money and do what I like. Don’t give up.
Life is a joke in this country
Just need to vent for a minute. This country is a joke and life is not worth living when you are a wage slave getting robbed from every corner. Rent is due before the 5th and I just checked my bank account and saw that I couldn’t pay it. I actually had very reasonable spending this month and this week in particular the grocery bill was lower and fed us for longer some how. But I’ll be about $50 short on rent if my paycheck from this week doesn’t come in before Wednesday. (Luckily I have some extra money stowed away that was left to me from my grandfather who died from covid in 2020, but I’ll be damned if my grandpa’s death pays for my fucking rent). It’s ridiculous. I’m frugal, don’t eat out at restaurants, and don’t have any kind of entertainment budget, so I’m staying in every…
A teachers contract from 1923
You're already taking away most of my life, have the decency and pay for those 30 minutes of respite, especially when you're more than happy when I end up doing loads of unpaid time out of my contract during the year…
As the title says i thought i would share. I felt better treatment with the military. They'll work you 50-70 hours a week. They will use every excuse to suck out overtr calling it “flex hours” you use for later…which you never do because they make you make up the time. They make you buy expensive insurance ($340 a month), lie that they'll pay you back and never do. They'll constantly tell you you're lazy even though you're over worked. DO NOT DO IT.
