Hey all, I would love to try and bring a union into my work place. They treat us pretty well, all things considered, but upper and middle management are big time corporatists at the end of the day. I know I cannot technically be fired for trying to unionize, but I am in an at will state. And due to our department finally getting some new technicians, I'm not quite as indispensable as I once was. On top of that, I am in the south (U.S.) and a fair amount of my coworkers are pretty heavily indoctrinated into “rugged individualism”. Meaning if I were going to swing a positive union vote, I'd only have a few known allies and would have to be quite vocal about getting the message out. Hello everyone! Hopefully this is the right channel. Im looking for advice on how to approach a situation regarding a very poor merit increase. Now before everyone spams “LEAVE” please use that as a last option. Backstory: I work as a Engineer for a very large energy company. We had record breaking years (last two had highest gross and net in recent history) and our parent holding company also recorded an excellent year. Now we generally receive a 2-3% yearly merit increase. Our structure comprises of a 1-5 rating system. Rating 1 or 2 rarely happens as that means you perform terribly. 3/5 is meets expectations (generally awarded with 2.8%) that is handed out to 85% of the company. 4/5 is exceeds expectations (generally awarded 3.2-3.5%) and is handed out to 15% of the company. Forgive the formatting as I'm on mobile right now, But basically the title, I'm a college student working for a non profit as event staff that promotes culture exchange for Japan, and I just wanted to see if I can actually convince (or at least build a good argument for ) giving me and my coworkers a better hourly pay (or even just me, seeing as I've worked here for 2 freaking years). This is a Book that I would recommend to anyone here who “thinks” and who THINKS they are a Free-Thinker. This is something that changed the way I looked at Society and it is still a Book that many PoliSci Majors have to read (it's short). It is absolutely relevant to this AntiWork stuff because you have to understand not just how your Co-Workers are going to react or what that sort of 'Hive Mind with No Queen' actually functions but also this applies to the Higher ups in Management as well because they will try to often take an approach that tries to Manipulate the Crowd of Workers. This sub is actually a disappointment to me because nobody is actually doing anything to further anything yet and if you believe yourself to be a Thinker or a Leader and haven't read this Book yet then you are actually behind…

Hello, lurker here. And this is a burner account because I’m paranoid about my boss finding this even though I know she doesn’t use Reddit. Basically I work in the video industry and I help my boss make videos about car sales. To keep this short, I’m sick and fucking tired of the way she criticizes my work. She loves most of what I do but when she doesn’t, she resorts to personal insults about it, saying things like “I didn’t try hard enough on it,” and that she “knows I can do better” without telling me what she doesn’t like. I have no problem with constructive criticism but the key word is constructive. She doesn’t tell me what’s wrong with it, she just expects me to fix it.
