There is a job opportunity, and it is the job you've wanted. However, you would need to take a pay cut by %15 of what you are currently making. You will be working the same amount of hours per week, same benefits, and the same distance to commute. You are not too fond of your current job, but it pays well. What would you do?
Month: April 2022
So recently, I was told by my boss that I was getting a pay rise. Not too much more than I was getting but the money adds up. He showed me a table showing how much an employee of my level (and time at the company) would be getting. The company itself is now refusing to pay me that much, despite there being documented evidence that that is what I am entitled to. This is a document sent out by the higher ups to store managers regarding employee pay. So I am fully aware of how much they were willing to pay me, it feels like an insult that they would secretly go back on that. I say secretly because this isn't a document I was really supposed to see, my manager is just luckily very transparent with our staff team. The company is DRAMATICALLY increasing the prices of everything…
Tried to give two weeks notice…
So I work for a large healthcare corporation as a physical therapist. I noticed that a lot of the emphasis was on money made rather than patient care, and was getting tired of having to make decisions that went against my better judgement solely for the purpose of bringing in more money. I didn’t want to burn any bridges with quitting so I looked on my company’s website at our handbook, which said that all clinicians need to give two weeks notice, whereas people in managerial positions need to give more in order to allow time to train their replacement. Cool, understandable. I give my two weeks notice, and am told I’m required to give four weeks. I said that I looked at the handbook that’s online for employees and that it says two. “Well, that’s not the updated handbook” I’m told. My boss’s boss then schedules a meeting with…
Crazy Friday….
I was due to start working a new temporary contractor job on Monday with a company through a staffing agency. The agency sent over a contract to sign, in addition to normal legalese, the first clause on the contract stated that employees weren't allowed to discuss wages with other employees. Now, I'm currently taking an Employment Law class as I get my Bachelor's Degree, and I've been part of this sub long enough to know that policies preventing employees from talking about wages are against the law. Well, I emailed them back last night saying I do not feel comfortable signing a document that by its very nature is illegal. Well, by noon today I still hadn't gotten a response, so I forwarded the email to another employee I'd been working with. His reply was ” Thanks for forwarding this to me as I had not seen it yet. I…
Lately, I've been feeling like my Employer is looking for a reason to get rid of me. I been with the company for almost 10 years, and worked very hard and made sacrifices to be a model employee. Over the years: I've got denied 7 promotions Faced a potential layoff due to branch consolidation and no assistance with job placement. Almost getting tricked into taking a demotion to stay with the company by the General Manager and HR Manager (which both were let go months later due company consolidation of positions. I know, ironic) No training programs to help move into a new role. Taking job assessments that is very a huge “red tape” in preventing qualified people from interviewed for the job. If you don't pass the assessment, you don't get interviewed. Did I mention that it's discriminatory and does not offer any opportunities to train in areas that…
I want so badly out of my job.
The higher-ups are forcing us all back into the office full-time starting Monday. No more hybrid remote. My productivity soared when they switched to hybrid, but apparently that doesn’t matter to them and they just want bodies in the office. This job doesn’t pay nearly enough to be worth the commute 5 days a week. With the commute I’m away 13 hours a day. I’ve sent out dozens and dozens of applications elsewhere, but no one has offered me any positions yet. I’m not in a position to quit without another job lined up. Is there any way to convince my managers I’m worth more at home than at the office? Have any of you successfully done it?
As stated in the title, what is your opinion on phone usage while working? I have seen some examples here where people have been forced to leave their phone in their managers drawer during work hours. I worked in one call center where we were not allowed to use our phone, not have it on desk etc, if we were caught they would tell us off. In one meeting they talked about it and said that if you use your phone, it would be impossible for you to take more than 30 calls a day, well there I was on my phone all day, even doing Christmas shopping, while taking 100 a day (the highest in the call centre)center. Another call center didn't care, people were even watching Netflix on the computer and no kne said anything, Saturdays were much more laid back, people brought in their own laptops and…
