Recently we’ve seen a truck driver be sent to prison for faulty brakes on a truck that a corporation owned and a nurse prosecuted for giving the wrong medication. 90% of us have been forced to work in unsafe conditions and it is beyond infuriating that the liability of any mishaps are being pushed onto workers and I believe this is setting a dangerous trend.

The true purpose of life
Hi all, I lurk, was just curious.
2% Pay Raise, How should I feel?
What can I do in this situation?
Some of you may remember me some of you may not. Anyway, I ended up getting a job at an insurance company as their mascot. Super fun, easy going, paid every week, loved the job and even the manager was quite fun and chill. Well that’s what I thought. I got hired January 12, 2022. Discussed my schedule let her know I need a day or two for school. I worked for about 3-4 weeks and I ended up getting Covid from this facility. I went 2 years without getting Covid throughout the pandemic and immediately got Covid from them and I know because they also got shut down previously months before for having multiple cases of Covid (I wasn’t aware of this until the day they sent me home for coughing and was just a normal cough I didn’t think anything of, this was my Last day there because…
Adjunct Professors Are Treated Like Shit
I've always heard the rumors that adjunct professors are treated like garbage in academia – but now I have some first hand experience. I had just finished by PhD from a good school in a STEM field, and had decided to look for work outside academia. In the meantime, though, I still needed some cash – so I applied for and got an Adjunct position at XXX University. For context, I taught an online course for them the year prior so they already knew me. The pay isn't stellar, and it is a small private university (that honestly is more of a cash-grab than a real institution) – but the big perk is this was an online course-load. This gives me some flexibility but also gives me money to tide me over while I apply to non-science work. Three weeks into the course, all is going swimmingly. Roughly…
Write a book report? On my own time?
I work at a small clinic for not much money. Today I found out that if we’d like a raise we have to write a “book report” on a book we were told to read. Both of these things on our own time. It feels patronizing to have to complete elementary schoolwork for a shitty raise.
My thoughts on this sub as a landlord
April Fools! Could you image being shameless enough to readily identify as someone who steals ownership of a necessity that someone else pays for?
Prejudice due to union work – recourse?
I’m a public school teacher in the U.S., and I’m currently planning to relocate to another part of my state. I plan to continue teaching in public schools. In order to apply to other districts, I need a reference from my current school principal (who is far from my biggest fan). I do not have hard proof, but I have a strong suspicion he is not being truthful when the new jobs call for a reference check. I have all perfect evaluations and zero blemishes on my record; however, since I am heavily involved in the union and have gone up against his administration on numerous (perfectly justified) occasions, he has taken a very nasty turn and has become quite hostile towards me. I recently learned that even if I do not get a job elsewhere, he plans to destaff me, which is akin to a layoff in public education.…
