So I work at a very popular red retail store in the US, whose name is the same as the thing you shoot at gun ranges (not trying to totally out myself here). I’m in a major city where the cost of living is high. We make $16.50/hr but me and all my coworkers barely get enough hours. I can barely pay rent. They’re borderline poverty wages. And although the store recently announced they were raising wages to $24/hr, we all know none of us are going to see those wages. It’ll just be a select few high level managers and the rest of us will be scrounging around for scraps. What are the first steps to start this? I don’t want to just go around asking coworkers about starting because I’m afraid I’ll get shut down real quick by managers. I’m in school too so I just want to…

How can you even live in South africa
Hey there I started doing some job hunting here in South Africa and I cant understand how citizens can live. the entry level work pays (Rand to Dolar) R3500 = $239.57 now if I where to lay out my actual expenses for 1 person Food and toiletries: R1500 = $102 Healtcare/healthinsurance: R750 = $47.9 Cronic medication: (healthcare wont pay) R550 = $34.22 (circumstantial to others ofcourse) Gas (car): R2000 = 136.90 ,if public transport (Taxi) R1.200 = $82.14 (before Russian sanctions) Car insurance: R2400 = $164.28 Rent on a small Apartment: R5300 = $362.78 Water and electricity for small apartment: R2000 = $136.90 Internet: R600 = $41.07 Cellphone: R400 = $27.38 TOTAL: R15 500 = $1060.95 This excludes life insurance, hospital bills, pets, savings, loans, hobbies and fast food. This to me is absolutelly deplorible and really should be made aware off and something needs to be done. A store…
I see lots of posts about witholding salary information on this sub, but I think it mostly doesn’t actually matter. Don't ask them what they want to pay. Always tell them what you want to be paid. You will either be able to negotiate your salary or quickly expose them for wasting your time. Negotiation requires you to get into the other persons head. It’s in your interest to open the negotiation first. Put your demand on the table and pitch a very high number just on the edge of plausible. It’s called 'open extreme'. They will instantly dismiss it, but it’s your offer in their head. They will probably make a miserable counter offer, which you should also instantly dismiss, but you reply with a more plausible offer still in the aggressive high range. Every time you make a new offer, make your concessions smaller than the previous offer…
Two days ago, I got an e-mail asking for a phone interview for a Winner's (canada) job at 9:19am. The slotted interview time was between 9:30am and 11am. I didn't even see the e-mail until after 11am. Luckily the e-mail said if I couldn't make their time slot, I could just phone and rebook it at a later time. So I called and set an appointment for two days later. Twenty minutes ago I called in, just to have a super condescending woman slowly explain to me that she waited the entire 9:30am to 11am for me to call and that the job would go to someone else. The e-mail was FROM this lady, so she knew she only gave me 10 minutes, and kept bringing it up like I was the idiot? I don't usually work retail jobs, but I wanted a part time job while studying. Anyone else…
feel bad for quitting a dishwashing job
Worked dishwashing for three days at a very nice Japanese restaurant (still a shit job regardless), just sent the boss a text saying I can't work fridays and saturdays anymore because I found a bartending job that pays a lot better and is more aligned with my interests and talents but if youre still interested I can work other days. He said he's very dissapointed in me and he put so much effort into the hiring process already (despite the fact that I've never met him) lol. Did I make a good decision or is it just typical guilt tripping, I felt like the text I sent him was reasonable.
Found this while doing deliveries
A little bit of background. Most of my work experience is in customer service/data entry. However for the past three years approximately I have been working in environmental services at a hospital in Pittsburgh. As you can imagine cleaning up bodily fluids during an active pandemic gets to you after awhile so of course I jumped at the chance to transfer to a cushy office job with better pay doing scheduling for post-op patients. I would also be going from second shift to a morning shift. Not thriller but there were a lot of conveniences for me getting out of work earlier. I counted down the days and was excited to start training. Come day one they have nothing for me, the person I’m supposed to be working with isn’t there so I’m sitting in with someone who normally doesn’t do the job and doesn’t know how to show me…
I love this current establishment
April fools. I detest it.
