Dude is a workaholic and expects everyone to do the same because “hustle” mentality. Messaged me at 730 pm expecting a response. He also expects us to work extra long hours because that's how he did it back then.
I am floored
I have been in some bad work situations, but this recent one with a national nonprofit takes the cake. After my manager refused to FILL OUT MY (first in a year and a half bc of when I was hired) ANNUAL REVIEW, which is directly tied to any potential promotions and raises, I was denied any promotion and any substantive raise despite running the regional office for my boss to great success since I was hired. HR and his boss allowed him to do this. I found another job with a competitor who offered me MORE MONEY than I asked my then-current job for and potentially less responsibility. Then-current job doesn't even counter (outside of telling me they would move my next review up 6 months – but after my manager, the one who didnt even fill out my review, returns from paternity leave – and he would review me…
What is your antiwork origin story?
A few months before the Covid shutdown in 2020, a coworker had cancer. Commuted nearly 2 hours each way to work as much as he could. We literally watched him get skinnier and sicker with every trip into the office. He couldn’t afford to lose his income/health insurance. Soon after, it became too much and he quit. Within weeks he died. Two months later, the office closed down due to Covid. We were all given cell phones and laptops. The job could be done 100% remote. It’s a government office. We didn’t go back to the office for 6 months. Realizing the agency had the mechanisms to give hundreds of people the equipment and go online made me so angry for my coworker that passed away. Everyone was mandated to come back into the office 5 days a week. I quit in January 2021. No one should have to work…

I’m about to go on another interview…
Can I vent? I am mentally drained. I don’t even want to go on them anymore! I get anxiety while showering and getting ready. Last three interviews I went on were red flag city. One did the ol’ bait & switch. Another tried to bullshit me into creating marketing content on their Canva account. LOL. I got up and left. The third… the owner stared at my tits the whole time! I was wearing a freaking long sleeve button down shirt. Come onnn! Every job interview is an absolute shit show. I feel like I’m practically groveling for fucking shitty pay. This is so depressing. I can’t take it anymore so I’ve started working on my own business because I can’t work for a corporate 9-5 office job forever. It’s soul draining. But I need something to pay my bills in the meantime. So here I go again to another…
