Sobering realizations
Had an interview with a head honcho about a supervisor position moving to manager position. Interview went really well and they asked me about long term goals. Ya girl has 6 months left of her masters and is fucking off out of the country after completion to find a job in the area I want. Lied without blinking that I’d likely be around for the next 3 years and would love progression in the company. Got the job. Now I feel a bit guilty (I know, I need to shake it), but also a little free.
There are no jobs on a dead planet.
I realized in therapy that therapy itself implies I have value. Then I realized how disgusting work was. I stopped giving a shit. It was wild seeing the dumbfounded looks I would get when I would say “No.” I live in the south. One day it snowed and when I woke up I saw the street was all white and went back to bed. I went to work the next day and my manager lost his shit. “You think you can just not come in!?” – “Yup.” Then I just walked away and did my work. I realized I might have taken it too far. Later his four business partners each independently approached and told me I did the right thing by staying home. That felt so validating and it emboldened me.
Sometimes the truth hurts
Overtime not being paid. AITA?
Hello all. Two months ago I got a job at small place. I am the only employee now, since my boss is verbally abusive and mentally ill, a nightmare to deal with. Anyways; long story short, on the week of 3/14 – 3/19 I worked 48.71 hours. Instead of getting 8.71 overtime hours, I only got 0.89. Apparently the pay periods are every 14 days and start on Wednesdays? In this case it went from 3/16 – 3-29. Last night, I was already over 40 hours for this current calendar week (4/25-4/30) and she wanted me to work today Saturday. So when confronted about overtime pay, my boss runs away from me screaming and even fired me. Says that payroll is set up that way, blah blah blah. Also, I found documents that a couple of former employees had signed renouncing to being paid overtime when working over 40 hours.…
