Why even bother trying to do anything right anymore

I’ve always been very careful with my money. I make every debt payment on time and try to stay top of things. I just got a letter from collections for $108 from the hospital. I owed $648 starting in November 2021 and requested to be put on a payment plan with a $108 monthly plan. Apparently because I didn’t respond to the email acknowledging my request I was never actually put on the plan. However, I’ve been paying $108 every month thinking I was on a plan. (I was at work when I read it and the first line of the paragraph said “Per your request, your monthly payment will be $108 a month” and I stopped reading because I had to go but apparently the last line said ‘after your first payment and response to this message will your plan start’) I freaked out and paid the balance that…

Fired after drug and alcohol test for a SPLINTER

I work in a soap factory as a machine operator, so perks of the job is always being covered in scrapes and bruises. I've been there nearly 4 years with no issue. We have these twins that are production leaders that will do ANYTHING to suck up to all the supervisors, but I didn't realize how bad it was until today. I got a splinter today after brushing up against a pallet, it happens a the time so no big deal right? Slap a bandaid on it and call it a day. It was tiny and hardly even a splinter. Well I came back from getting said bandaid and she told me my supervisor wanted to see me in the office. I had no idea why, and as I was walking to the office he was approaching me, and told me to show him where I got hurt. I was…

thoughts on tipping from a server

i posted this as a reply to that tipping post, and realized it's got 5k comments and nobody is gonna see it, so here are some thoughts from someone who knows what they are talking about. here's the deal with jobs who depend on tips i am a good server, i average 20 an hour on a bad day. this is a fast casual type restaurant, not a fancy place by any means. and this also takes into account the (rather many) scumbag tables who don't tip for whatever reason. they pay me just over 2.00 an hour. that all goes to taxes, i get $0.00 paychecks. if they moved service to a paid wage position, and eliminated tips, your 20.00 plate would be closer to 30 or 45 bucks a plate, that is, if they wanted to pay me what i make now. the guys in the kitchen…

New to a management roll. Any advice?

Hey guys. I am just starting a management roll after leaving the worst job of my life. One of my reasons for leaving was the lack of room for upward trajectory. This unfortunately means I have never managed full-time employees before. I have managed people, but mostly college interns who had super low-pressure jobs. I know interns are real employees but they had it pretty good actually. They were paid, we were super flexible with their schedules, and time off was always granted (if only every workplace could be like that). As a person who worked with them, I always made sure to give them projects that aligned with the skills they wanted to develop. I haven’t ever really met resistance because of it and worry I don’t have what it takes. What advice do you have for me as a sort of new manager? How do I create a…

When you’re having too much fun on your job

How’s an elevator mechanic working on a job in Southern California. You’re constantly working with different contractors on when they get their work done. I needed to have a meeting with an electrician to find out when they were gonna stub out their work in the pit. I knew the contractor wouldn’t be able to get to it for about a week. That was OK with me. I talk to the contractor electrician and just what I thought he said it’ll take about a week. My reply to him was OK I’ll wait and I just stood there. There was a couple other contractors who were standing waiting to talk to the electrician they heard what I had said and kind of snickered and stood there waiting for the electrician to realize what I had said. When the electrician got done talking to a person after me he kind of…

What does a ‘liveable wage’ mean?

I know what I believe, but I thought I would make this post to generate some discussion and gauge what the community thinks of a liveable wage. What can you pay for with a liveable wage? How much is liveable?

What does antiwork think of all the “what does antiwork think of this?” posts that are making it to popular recently?

I’ve noticed an increase in posts reaching r/popular which start “what does anti work think of…” or “what do you guys make of this?”, and it’s starting to feel like some corporate research project tasked with figuring out the sub’s sentiment on antiwork values. Anyone else noticed this?
