Like what? The social contract broke years ago and has only gotten worse. I'll never be able to afford a family – not that I want one with the ensuing climate catastrophe. Can't afford to ever own a home. Can't afford even a shitty cheap car. Healthcare, at least in the US, is broken. Same with education and never ending predatory student loans. What's the point of working 40 – 60+ hours a week if all you're doing is barely living? I'm 34 and got laid off during the pandemic after spending years trying to find a slightly decent paying job – which I did briefly in 2019. Every time I go to apply to a job or interview etc. I just think why? What's the point of this? It's all BS. All the ambition and drive in my 20s is dead after so much backstabbing and greedy penny pinching…
Month: April 2022
I get anxious and dreadful as summer approaches because the sun stays out longer. I realized this is due to associating daylight with work. I’d wager this fuels the preference of a lot of “night owls”.
A recruiter asked me about my hobbies
Title. I’ve been applying for jobs and my CV is out there, I’ve had non stop calls for the past 2 days so I’m not exactly desperate, which has allowed me to take a few liberties in talks with recruiters. This one was the strangest one, I’ve never ever been asked in a pre-interview recruiter conversation about my hobbies, and when I expressed this and asked what relevance it had to the job she said these words exactly: “It’s the culture. Thanks for your time.” And hung up. What the fuck? I was so confused.
This is affecting YOUR healthcare. USA.
Chick fil A posts a cashier job in my area for $16-17 and hour. It is above minimum wage by approximately $3 an hour on the low end. Apartments (1 bedroom) going for 1,100 it certainly isn't enough for them. Anyway… I worked for a large medical company/hospital for nearly 9 years. I made $18 an hour when I left. I left with so much knowledge, proper techniques, and extremely low error rates that benefitted patient outcomes. I could even assist with short staffing in 2 other departments which I was made to do during certain times with COVID. I dealt with biopsies (bone marrow, thyroid, peritoneal, etc)/cancerous tissues/on adults and children. Cutting specimens, preparing slides, processing samples (shipping, staining, cutting, etc). I loved my work and I loved ensuring patients received the care they deserve. Making a cancer diagnosis as soon as possible can have great impacts on patients,…
WHY DO EMPLOYERS DO SHIT LIKE THIS???!! just a little bit of background. I've been an agency recruiter for 6 years. For at least the last two we have been telling our boss (the owner) that covid-19 really changed the employee/candidate landscape. Basically begged for support, and raises. Fast forward to now….. with zero support, I'm burnt out on the daily grind of trying to hire, and source candidates. I finally got serious about finding a new job, and I went on two interviews and got two job offers. I accepted one, and turned in my notice. By the time I came to work the next day. My coworkers had received a raise, and stupid amount of support in regards to helping figure out how to get more candidate traffic. One coworker got a $10 per hour raise!!!! I just don't understand why company owners do shit like that. To…
Got let go today…
So I posted a while ago about having to enforce stupid lunch policies that require employees to go within the first 45 minutes of their 8-9 hour shifts. Today I was let go for speaking against the new manager who created these rules. I told her how the way she treats people is unacceptable and the whole staff is tired of being disrespected. HR was in the meeting, of course sided with her, and I was let go. Guess it’s time for a new job. Going to be hard to find anything with similar pay quickly. Have a mortgage and a baby on the way so wish me luck!
Put in my two weeks today…
I work in the HVAC field. I’ve got about 7 years in, six years with my company, and an associates degree. My current company dramatically underpays me, about $24hr. I recently accepted a union journeyman position making over twice the hourly rate, with benefits included as well as a pension. There was no chance a counter offer would have been anything close to acceptable. I messaged my manager letting him know next Friday would be my last day. He didn’t respond. He did however complain about it to my coworker, who immediately let me know. It’s been about 4 hours now and he still hasn’t acknowledged my message. It’s this type of behavior and lack of respect that had me even looking for a new job in the first place. HVAC is not crap work, it’s actually a great field to work in but it’s plagued by mismanagement and shit…
