Most recently, sent my résumé to a firm that asked for very specific skill sets for a posted salary range of $70k-$80k. Very specifically I have been doing that work for 14 years. However, the company I worked for was sold to a multi-national and I was down-sized about 3 years ago. There were so many issues, from a guy beneath us swearing through the floor because we walked around. And my roommate illegally subletting his room during covid. Problem was, I only found out 2 weeks before that I got a job in the same city, so had to start looking for somewhere to stay. My girlfriend and I ended up homeless for a month, looking for somewhere to live. I stayed with family, sleeping on their floor, commuting up to 2 hours per day to look for places. Every day I spend on this subreddit, I am glad I live in Switzerland. We get days off for funerals, weddings etc. plus 5 weeks holiday a year. “Sick leave” isn’t a thing, if you have a doctor’s note (which you get for a sore throat or similar stuff) you get paid for recovery time. Our healthcare isn’t free sure, but I read about someone who pays $375 a month and has a 15k deductible. I pay $350 a month and have a deductible of $300 (!) a year. If I lose my job, I get paid by the “work center” while I find a new job. Plus, you have to get 3 months notice from the employer before employment runs out. If I can’t get a job before the deadline runs out (about 250 days) I go on welfare. Which covers rent plus necessities (including a TV). You never…

So I was on PTO for my wedding this last 1 1/2 weeks and I had submitted my time and it was all approved and good to go. I get an email on Monday at 11am while on my honeymoon asking for some clarification on which days I had off as there was some discrepancy on their internal pto office calendar. I replied on Tuesday at 213 am (the soonest I saw the email) saying what the days were and that I would be back to work this Thursday and I'll amend the calendar when I get in. Firstly, I would like to warn you that this is going to be a bit of a rant. Hello all, after a shit show of a shift me and my co worker were having a chat about how the current state of the restaurant that we work is declining more and more. We were first talking about how we needed to hire more chefs as we keep cycling through the same 8 chefs and when one of us decide to take some time off, example one of us took a week off to go on holiday to Germany, we all get screwed over as everyone's hours get skyrocketed. It's to the point where as we were talking about this, one of the manager asked in the work group chat if any chef could do a 11-5 tomorrow afternoon as the chef that was supposed to be working is currently ill.…

Is anyone just abso-fucking-lutely sick of going through 3 or so rounds of interviews just to have some corporate recruiter or manager lead you on? I went through four rounds of interviews. Four. Rounds. Two of which were more than two hours. All of that and guess what? Nothing. Apparently it was a matter of 'fit'. Fuck employment. Fuck this system where eating and living depends on your job.

(throwaway account for anonymity) I am a supervisor at a Staples retail store. The company just launched some new app called Staples Connect, and my boss (the general manager) is going around putting up signs with a qr code for associates to install the app on our phones. I was told I was going to be required to install the app on my phone since I am a supervisor and I need to be familiar with the app so I can help customers and/or associates with using the app. This is NOT a company phone; it is my own personal phone that I pay for. What is my recourse here? How can I tell the company to fuck off, apart from simply saying no? I'm hoping for something legal I can point to, I guess.
