Just gave my notice today!

I just gave my company my one week notice. One week mostly so I can say goodbye to all the wonderful people I've built relationships with here. Also because my husband finally got me to realize that while I love working here, I'm nothing but a number to my company, and if the roles were reversed, they wouldn't give me notification of me getting fired, so why should I be so nice? I'm terrified of leaving the only kind of job I've really known for the last 5 years, but so ready for the change this will give me!

Work won’t let me use vacation or sick time within six months of hiring AND now it’s until I’ve built up at least 140 hours of both sick and vacation time.

While I don’t agree with it, it’s somewhat typical of a workplace to limit how much PTO one can use within some many months of hiring. When in the interview they told me that I couldn’t use any PTO within six months of hiring, I thought that was absurdly long but that I could try and make it. Well that didn’t happen because life didn’t happen. My wife got in a car accident and I got Covid. All in all I’ve taken 8 days off for work, 5 days due to a positive Covid test within 5 months. I know this is excessive but each day off was due to unseen circumstances, especially Covid. (I am vaccinated.) I got called into my managers office and told that I’m order to take ANY vacation or sick time that I would need to accumulate at least 140 vacation hours and 140 sick…

Started a new job. Already hating it after the first day

I know this subbredit has bad rep but hey I use it a fair bit. I took two months from work to focus on my university education and now since I've graduated I'm back in the job market. I applied for a job because according to the ad it sounded ok since I've got good logistics coordinator experience. I got it so good news. However, started today and its about a few grades below my previous job and its so easy I am already bored and dreading going to work tomorrow. On my second day. I feel lied to because the job description didn't make it out like I was a receptionist but that's what I apparently am. Its mindnumbingly easy and repetitive plus shit hours. and I really don't want to go in tomorrow. Already looking for a new job because wow this job sucks.

how tf is there a worker shortage, when companies are “urgently hiring” but don’t want desperate people

You can apply for 50+ jobs and I've only had 2 interviews out of 50+ jobs I've applied for and all/most “unfortunately we are going to other candidates” or just don't hear shit back from them wtf. Fuck this economy and corporations, don't say “urgently hiring” if you not finna hire someone that's actually fucking willing to work dumbasses!

I got laid off yesterday.

Nowadays it seems like this story is a dime a dozen. I've come to accept it, but there are certain points that I'm frustrated about. I want to provide some background first before circling back. I'm married with 2 young kids, 3M, and 1F, and my wife is also 3 months pregnant. My mom and my brother live with us as well, and I have a mortgage to pay in New York City. My dad isn't in our life as he's always been in and out of hospitals throughout his and my life due to being diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. That being said, I have been working for a FinTech firm in the Brokerage space for roughly 10 months and was brought on board with the expectation that I could grow with the role to be one of the future leaders in the company. My team worked on…

(US redditors) Since tipping is such a controversial matter, what are your thoughts on having the service industry reformed: Fixed wages + optional tipping?

The customers and tipped workers are being pitted against each other, and though both sides present valid points, nothing has changed since the tipping system has been engrained in the US culture for decades. To the customers, how do feel about paying more for services received but without the expectation of giving tips? To the servers and tipped workers, how do you feel about having a fixed salary (increased to match the current industry standard) but with the possibility on losing out on tips? Also, what would be minimum wage you’d be willing to take if this becomes the standard?
